I am going to get some highlights before my cruise next month, and can't decide which way to go. My hair is light brown. Can anyone who has had both done tell me which you prefer, and why? Thanks! :)

My hair stylist recommended (so I went with it) foil low lights for a natural looking "dimension." It does look more natural than those streaky lighter bits that look rather like someone painted on your hair. :teeth:

Foil! A girl I worked with in high school had some done with a cap and ended up with little circles at the base of her head where each section was pulled through the cap! :scared1: Not a good look. I know not all caps make your hair turn out that way, but I don't want to risk it! Plus I think the foils make it look more natural and better flowing.

FOIL!! That darn cap is some leftover medievil torture device. Never again!

I like getting foil better, but I usually get a cap because it's much cheaper. My hair is really curly so it all blends in the same anyway.

And yes, it's a torture device. I usually want to smack my stylist when she's doing it.

I didn't think any hair stylists used the cap anymore? I love the foils. I like the way it looks, more natural than the old cap.

I like foil best. I had the cap one time. Just once. It felt like a hen was pecking at my head. Not for me.

I think a hen pecking would feel better than the cap.

And I would have to question any hair stylist who would use a cap.

You are probably right. It could be used for torture. I couldn't wait to get out of that seat.

Okay, I don't use either but when I read this thread title I thought I saw an R in cap and was REALLY CURIOUS what this thread was on about.

Really why? I have worked with some top colorists who have used caps. Every techique has it place. And I had a client who had super short hair she got hilights almost everytime she got it cut, I could get it done in under a half hour.

I would go with foil & not a full head of Hilights.

Well your defination of "top colorist" is way way different than mine.

:rotfl: I have seen colorists paint on highlights, but I've never seen one of those frost n' tip caps in a salon. If I did I would run for the hills. :scared1:
