Higher than average snark factor on John and Kate threads. Why?

I guess because they're over exposed? It took a while before I even knew who they were and now I'm so sick of seeing them everywhere. I don't care and the sooner they go away and deal with their problems, the better.

I don't watch the show, but I can tell you why I'd be snarky about them.

They signed up for the attention. They deliberately allowed mass media into their lives. So they need to face the consequences when publicity backfires on them. I probably would feel sorry for them if they didn't actively seek the media attention by signing up for the reality show and get handsomely paid for it.

I think the snark factor is high because people are genuinely concerned for those 8 children because their parents seem to spend most days with their heads up their butts and only concerned about themselves. How many times are one or the other going to run to US or People or to the morning shows, etc. to give their side of the story first? If they're not ashamed of their behavior now, they will be when they need to answer to their kids when the kids are older.

I also think the snark factor is high because J&K have sold their souls to the devil (TLC). What exactly does a new motorcycle/scooter have to do with providing for their children? What exactly does going to a bakery in NJ have to do with the kids? That was for Kate's birthday, not theirs. All the spa trips and snowboarding trips...how does that benefit their children? It doesn't. It's all about J&K and how TLC can make money off of their children.

Getting off my soapbox now, so I can duck from the flame throwers.

I think you spoke the truth well. No flames  you're getting lots of flowers from me.

I have to agree.. Add to that the fact that some people clash due to strong personalities and strong opinions and you're going to have "snarkiness" - just like the "no longer allowed" threads..

Hopefully the "hiatus" will turn into a never-to-be-seen-again show and then Jon & Kate can go off and live whatever lives they have chosen for themselves - while at the same time providing the emotional security and privacy that their children deserve..

That would be a dream come true..:thumbsup2

Divorce/separation/kids - it can be very, very passionate situation.

I think you hit on the crux of it. People aren't talking about Jon & Kate's views on Divorce/separation/kids really. They are talking about their own views. If they agree or disagree with one of the spouses, it's like they are condoning them with their own views, values and morals about marriage/divorce/separation/kids. If they disagree with the other one, their own views and values are being called into question. Then they become defensive about it.

Jon & Kate's situation is so multi-layered, that you can say one thing about one part of it, and then seem to contradict yourself when you talk about another aspect. Then other people haul you out for it, or start judging you on your views. Like there is only ONE way to perceive this situation. There's got to be one winner. One villian and one victim. And you'd better side with the right one. :badpc:

And here's another AMEN!! from me! :thumbsup2

Because Jon & Kate are both attention *****s who have put the well-being of their children second to their need for attention.

Instead of raising their family and working out their issues, she's running all over the country promoting her book, he's running around trying to pretend he's single, she's a nasty sarcastic withc, he's a passive aggressive *******, and they have these 8 beautiful children who are in the middle of this mess through no fault of their own and now they are going to pay the price for their parents' (and I use the term loosely) stupidity.

And that business about needing to be on TV to be able to afford to raise 8 kids...newsflash, when I was a kid we had a lot of families in our school who had 7, 8, 9 even 10 kids. Often, the 10 kids ranged in age over 10 years, so the family was having one kid a year. And they managed...without the million $$ house, the wacky haircut, the tummy tuck, the drunken nights in the bar and all the other ridiculousness that surrounds this train wreck.

When I see situations like this, all I can think is "And I couldn't have kids but these people could"... and all I can do is :sad2:.

That is really sad.. :( I never even thought about people such as yourself and how it would make you feel..:sad1

And I totally agree with everything you have said..

Just another lesson in what money and greed does to people..

I agree. I first heard about them here on the DIS. So, I tuned in to see what all the controversy was about. I immediately disliked Kate.:sad2: I was at Target one day and saw the DVDs for sale. Why would anyone spend money on them? I was at Publix another time and they were on the front cover of a magazine. Why? :confused3 Other than having many children, what have they done that commands so much attention? :confused3 I don't get it. :confused3:confused3

I've always been reminded of Jim Carrey's movie, "The Truman Show" when watching Jon & Kate.

These children have grown up on tv, with millions watching their lives unfold. It gets very personal to the viewers, and that brings out a lot of emotion.

Isn't it a shame that having camera crews in your house & in your face a lot of the time is "normal" for these children. I don't know how long the show's been on, I don't watch, but probably most of the younger ones lives. This is all they know. And I hear there are 30 more episodes to go? How many new episodes do they show a week? Or is the contract for a few more years?

And, as I mentioned in my prior post, Kate has yet again given an exclusive interview to People magazine, since announcing their divorce. The reporter was on a morning show today, so that means Kate met with her sometime between Monday night and last night. Wow, way to deal with this privately! She also is quoted as saying that her kids were not too upset with learning the news, yet she refused to remove her wedding ring because she feels like that will show the kids how permanent this decision is (duh!) and will send them over the edge. Is she freaking kidding? Seriously? You tell your kids you're getting a divorce, but as long as you leave your ring on, they might hold out hope that this isn't permanent? WTH? She is also quoted as saying that her kids love her because she does for them, and feeds them and provides for them, and they love Jon because he's their father. TLC has even pulled the plug on this show for a hiatus, yet she MUST remain in the spotlight, so she runs to People. :rolleyes1

This show/family does not bring out the snarky in me, it brings out the anger in me. :headache:

The best hope for the children is that the divorce proceedings are heard by a tough judge that puts the kids first. It would be great if Kate and Jon are sent to mandatory counseling and are also placed under a no nonsense gag order.
(Too many J&K threads, I think...I posted basically this on another. Most of the threads seem to be talking about the same things. :rolleyes1)

I don't know if a judge would do this, because it might, effectively, put them on the unemployment line.

In my heart of hearts, I think TLC is going to wait this out a while, and then quietly cancel the show once the nonsense has calmed down. Does anyone really want to watch a depressing show about a self-absorbed mother (and occasionally father) who is raising 8 kids alone? Also, with all the kids in school full-time as of September, when will they find time to shoot? They won't be able to go off on vacations as frequently, and I really believe the kids' school work will suffer if every extra moment of every day and weekend are spent shooting.

Well, all this baloney going on with these 2 people isn't doing TLC any good in my opinion....they are exploiting those children too, with the permission of the parents.

My guess is that neither parent will care about the children's schoolwork as loong as the attention and $$$ keep coming.
