Higher than average snark factor on John and Kate threads. Why?

Can anyone explain this to me? :confused3

I've been around here for what, 5 years now. Have read or participated in some of the many thread topics which can be controversial, or heated.

Yet I've never seen the snark factor higher than on the John and Kate threads, and I don't understand it.

I mean, I get that some like Kate, or Jon, and some don't. But why the intensity of criticizing, or defending them?

(Hold on while I put my Flame Suit on. :firefight )

What I don't understand is why the need for so many JOn & Kate threads. There are like 4 or 5 now I think.

It makes people feel better about their own lives I guess.

Many people have very strong opinions about this show - whether it's because they can relate to Jon, Kate, neither, or they have serious concerns about the impact on the children..

It tends to get "snarky" because no two people with very strong personalities will ever mesh well - especially when they are on the opposite sides of the fence..

If the show "goes away", I think you will see a lot of the interest in Jon & Kate drop off..

I can only speak for myself, but if they were to cancel the show tomorrow, I would probably post "Thank goodness!" - and never give Jon & Kate another thought.. My concern is for the children - and their privacy.. Jon & Kate are adults and perfectly capable of taking care of themselves..

The thread says Part 5. I was one of the original posters from Part 1. Some of us started the thread almost 2 years ago, we were lucky if we could find the thread on page 5 some days.

Some of us, liked to discuss what was happening on the show each week. But then last February the flood gates opened. Some of us decided we had enough, and we felt like we invested way to much time being concerned about a Reality show.

Divorce/separation/kids - it can be very, very passionate situation. Everyone wants to discuss/debate the situation. I posted once last nite and I felt completely ignored. Personally I don't think anyone is listening or reading anyone elses responses, unless the find someone that really makes them upset/thus the snarkiness to each other.

The whole situation is just sad.

Because right now we have more people who don't normally post on the other threads posting due to the announcement...

I think it is more noticeable now that all of the political/religious threads have been banned. People used to really get ugly on those threads.

I think your thread is the one I briefly participated on.

And I was shocked  at one of the responses I got. Because it wasn't from a trollish poster or anything, it was from a regular poster. After that, I bowed out of posting, but I did continue to read for a while. I think that's where I first noticed what I'm talking about.

I've always been reminded of Jim Carrey's movie, "The Truman Show" when watching Jon & Kate.

These children have grown up on tv, with millions watching their lives unfold. It gets very personal to the viewers, and that brings out a lot of emotion.

I think it is because of Jon and Kate's dynamic and opposite personalities, we tend to take sides. I think we defend "our side" because we might see some of ourselves in Jon or Kate.

I also think that we feed off of the media coverage and the blogs.

The only thing I can say is sorry.

Agreed.

:flower3:

There are a couple of posters on those threads who seem to live for the show, and not in a good way. It's as if they take notes on every little thing they can criticize. I don't understand why they even watch the show because they really seem to dislike Jon and/or Kate so intensely.

I think for several seasons anyone watching J&K thought what a wonderful family. They looked forward to watching the show every Monday night and then of course when TLC would run Marathons, people enjoyed viewing them as well. THEN...we started to notice things...as the kiddos got a bit older, Kate and Jon started to seem "at odds" with each other.

And then it was like a giant snowball with news and rumors coming from the Gosselins ALL THE TIME. From the BIG move, to J&K's personal lives, to now this news of their separation.

I really really think all those that signed on to watch this show when it first aired NEVER thought it would come to THIS in a matter of years.
