Highchair

We are heading to WDW soon and our 7 month old can't sit for very long so using a highchair in the restaurants will not be an option, he still needs to be on a recline. When we go out at home we usually use his car seat (but won't be taking into to the parks) or stroller while feeding. Since restaurants don't allow strollers does anyone have any suggestions of what we can do? We will hold him if that is our only option, but feeding him on our laps is always an adventure with a kid who loves to squirm, wriggle and move!

Unfortunately, if they won't allow the stroller in and he can't sit in the highchair, holding him is the only other option. I guess you could "wear" him, as some do.. I don't know if that is an option for you.

We are in the same boat...going in a couple of weeks with my six month old dd. I read somewhere that they have "infant" highchairs with seats similar to those you see on shopping carts once in a while. But since we can't be certain of this I am unsure what to do. My dd is in that in between stage of learning to sit up but tires easily without something to lean back on with head support. Ugh!

When DS was that age, we tried to eat at Quick Service restaurants that had outdoor seating b/c then he could stay in the stroller to eat.

At MK, we had no problem parking him in his stroller at an outdoor table at Pecos Bill, and there were shaded spots. Cosmic Ray's and Casey's Corner both also have outdoor seating.

Went with my now three year old when he was 3 months. Some restaurants did allow us the bring in our stroller. Others were strict (Be Our Guest understandably). When we couldn't bring him in the stroller we wore him or took turns holding him.

How close to sitting is your little one? When my baby first started sitting in highcahirs we used a cushioned cover. I know babies all develop at different rates, but I would start testing the waters so to speak (and plan on holding baby if all else fails).

Obviously it's not a guarantee, but 2 years ago when I had a nice sitting infant, I was able to bring the stroller into many places (Crystal Palace, O'Hana, Rainforest Cafe, Hollywood and Vine, SCIFI, 1900 Park Fare) are ones I remember for sure.

Some suggestions

With my DGS, we used one of those chair covers, and a couple of small baby sized pillows to pad around the inside to give him more support, for taking him into restaurant locally. Then of course went the holding route.

We would not put him in the highchair until the food came, to help cut down on the length of time he was in the highchair.

You might think about renting one of the strollers were the top portion come out, you know... the ones that you can clip into a car seat or stroller. DD had one of these and on longer meals we would use it. You can take the top portion in the restaurant, and asking for a booth. There are lots of stroller rental options so this might be a big help. If flying you could use a umbrella stroller in the airport.

we are just back from 6 day trip only infant highchair we found was at Chef Mickey. Hollywood & Vine had the sling chair that would work with carseat but not for child. we ended up holding her. at 7 months would plan on having him sit inchair to be fed and holding him rest of meal. as we had double stroller with older child besides baby we were not able to bring stroller in anywhere at table serves

If it wasn't going to be so hot I would be inclined to take the car seat, but he gets so hot and it's not as comfortable as the stroller. We have been practicing sitting, but as you have said they tire easily. I wouldn't be so worried if my back would cooperate but at the moment i suffer from back pain and holding him is quite a challenge for me. I think my husband will have to do most of the holding/baby wearing this trip.

This is a good idea will keep this in mind if table service restaurants don't work.

He can sit for a couple minutes then and then gets tired. We have been practicing and it is getting better but no where near ready for the restaurant highchairs.

Oh wow, maybe some restaurants will allow it. I can at least ask if it is possible.

Yeah I don't think the infant highchair is common in Disney. Will probably have to hold him most of the time.

I think your right, we will probably have to hold him. I suffer from back pain so my husband will probably have to do most of the baby wearing/holding. I am sure though it will all work out!

You might want to take a look at the My Little Seat highchair cover - it looks like it could be a bit more support for a young sitter and while he might not be able to see the table while sitting he could hang out in it and take in the action around.

I haven't taken my son to Disney yet, but we go out to eat frequently here at home. He's 10 months old now and can sit in the high chair for a decent period of time before getting restless. But before that, we'd hold him until we ordered our food, put him in the high chair and fed him, and then took turns holding him after he was done eating.

You may be surprised, too. Sometimes a couple of days makes the difference between not (insert milestone here) and full capability of doing said milestone. I tried for a couple of months to get my son to self-feed and suddenly one day a week and a half ago, he fed himself an entire meal. Go figure.

I don't personally enjoy babywearing. I take my son in an Ergo carrier to run errands, but with my son weighing in at 24 lbs and me at 115 lbs, that doesn't last too long! However, I know lots of people who absolutely love it (I think I'm the oddball), so that may be another option for you.

You might want to take a look at the My Little Seat highchair cover - it looks like it could be a bit more support for a young sitter and while he might not be able to see the table while sitting he could hang out in it and take in the action around.

I tried one of these for my first when he was 7 months and a decent sitter. I was not a fan. We were in ft Lauderdale visiting my aunt, and I thought it would be great for traveling. My guy swam in it, and it was no where near supportive for him. He was slipping all around (this is my memory from 5 1/2 years ago), and we didn't use it more than once. Instead, we went to ikea and bought a highchair for $20. Like I said, he was a good sitter. We already used the IKEA highchair at home.

Side note, we switched to this for when we go out or to friends with our 9m old. It is really nice and has come in very handy. While this won't work for Disney, it is great for out and about. Now I don't have to clean or cover the gross restaurant ones. (Or worse yet, deal with ones not put together correctly, poor baby almost slipped right through).

We got my DD and SIL one from Gracco, ( I think it was like a 3 in 1 or something like that) the carrier clips into, a base that is secured to the seat in the car and then can be taken out and clipped to the stroller then when he out grew it we just use the regular stroller, and he has moved into a forward facing seat now. I even put to carrier part into the shopping cart when I was grocery shopping we he was little. I know that they found it on Amazon. DH and I bought a extra base for our SUV so that we could move him around more easily, as I take care of him while my DD works.
