I went to the doctors and my Bo and blood sugars are up. I don't hv diabetics but its borderline. I hv a head cold so not feeling good and I've had a lil more stress. I'm thinking it everything causing my body to go nuts. I hv an old bp monitor with the sleeve and bulky . I want to get a wrist monitor so I can carry it with me.

Which kind do you have or recommend. And how much? Thanks

Brew dr told me no salt but how do I lower my blood sugar if I can't exercise because bp is already high?

The wrist ones? My old one is how I realized mine was high. I notice its higher when I sit up and lower when I laid down with feet up. I told the nurse and she checked it both ways and noticed the same thing. I feel better laying down. I just took some new meds hope it helps.

Yep. It may be telling higher and lower but they say the actual readings are pretty far off.

We had an employee with an issue a few weeks ago. Wrist showed her with low BP. Paramedics found it was amazingly high (and she was in the same position at the time with both monitors... ) Hospital agreed with paramedics!

That's when they said those things are known for being unreliable.

I was in the market for one of these a couple of months ago, and after much research, found this article, and a couple of others that agreed with it. This model (or one very similar can be ordered from Amazon for $49)

Thank you for the info. I was looking at the model thats in the link today at walmart $58 . I was going to see if sams or costco carry it cheaper. I have a flex account so I'll get reinbursed. there were two different ones at ww and the one in the article seems more compact and looks more comfortable.

I used a wrist bp monitor for 2 years before it finally stopped working. I would go in periodically and they would send a float nurse out to take my bp (no charge) and then I would take it with my wrist one. Bp was always a little higher with theirs but it was always consistently off so I could use it at home.

Walking was a good exercise for me and helped lower all my bad numbers. BTW whenever I had a cold or any illness, my bp would soar. You might ask them to check it again when you feel better.

We've had a couple different kinds through the years (and I've many times taken them to the Dr. office to see how accurate they were, and they were always very close). The kind we have now was bought at Wal-Mart and is Reli-on brand. I can't remember how much I paid, but I'm sure it was less than $50.

I go back in a week to have it checked with the nurse. Plus some labs. labs will show result of blood sugar over the last three months. Depending on the numbers if high and shows diabetic insteak of borderline than Dr. will put me on a pill. So we will go from there. After I ran around to pharmacy and ww and taking my new HP meds I retested and BP is lower bottom number is under 101 but in the 90's and my blood sugar was 157. I feel better. My heart was racing and thats when the numbers were high. I'm also on antibotics so I know its because i'm sick but its an eye opener.

I did see the one you mentioned at Wal mart. I will be going shopping this weekend.

Used to have one, but it never seemed accurate. DH has one from the VA so when I used and compared the two they were way apart in readings. Now I just use his. Good luck in finding what you need.

When I had preeclampsia I had a wrist one. It was horribly inaccurate. I would take three pressures in a row and there would be a 30 point different on te top number. That could lead to lots of issues and hospitalizations I may not have needed. I got an arm one that recorded the pressures. It was great. I brought it to all my doctors visits (several a week) and they could see a wider range of pressures.

FWIW that's pretty normal.

Also if you're taking drugs for your cold, those can create blood pressure changes. I hope the doctor was informed if you are taking anything, and that s/he knows that they can change blood pressure.

Right, it's called the a1c test.

Why not make dietary changes now? Metformin (if you read the package insert about how it works, side effects, etc) takes a bit of time to kick in, and there are plenty of people with type 2 who change it all around with diet changes. So you might as well look into that now.

As for exercise, that's "prescribed" for people with higher BP; things like walking will help you out. And it also helps with blood sugars as well.

I'm a home health nurse and I bought my wrist b/p cuff at CVS or Walgreens can't recall which but it's pretty accurate for me. the one in link is nice also but I like mine and it was cheaper. another nurse bought same one as mine and said same thing she finds it within 1-2 points when doing manual. ETA my case says Walgreen so I bought it at walgreens. came with carry case.

only on prilosec (generic) for acid reflex. I did take advil cold and sinus a few days earlier but not for 48 hours before my dr. visit.

I have a sinus infection so after hour care Doctor gave me the Z-pak antibotic. when I feel the pressure in my face thats when i start to feel horrible. i did feel better today with my blood pressure even though is was still high but once I got to work and 1/2 way through into it I felt my ear , sinus pressure and headache and I could feel my blood pressure rise.
