I’m a little taken aback by the high cost of travel insurance lately. I did find Detour Travel Insurance to be quite a bit lower than anywhere else. Has anyone used them? I have checked out Insuremytrip, & Squaremouth & that’s what I’ve come up with.

Covid changed everything in regards to travel insurance. It was one of the most profitable types of policies for insurance companies to write because claims were rare. Not any more . Lots of people being forced to cancel cruises at the last minute as they get sick. My wife and I made it until last year before we caught covid. Our son made it until 3 days ago, but it seems everyone is going to get it.
Throw in pent up demand for cruises that has sent cruise fares soaring, the days of cheap travel insurances are gone for now.

I have an annual travel insurance that I have renewed the last 3 years and it’s been $1400 each time (with 6 people on the policy) through Allianz. I thought it would have went up because I had a claim paid through it last year when I went to the hospital for kidney stone while at WDW. They paid the difference of what my insurance didn’t cover which was $6200 because I have a very high deductible plan. Best decision I ever made was to get this type of policy which I didn’t know existed until someone else on the DIS posted about it.

I bought a Detour plan recently. The only other company I have come across that hasn't raised their rates is TravelGuard
