That is some picture. She doesn't seem to have any remorse. I wonder what punishment was meted out.

Well in my little special world, I would dump acid into her eyes, but that is the way I play. You know, an eye for an eye. literally in this case.

wow that is crazy. where do kids get this kind of hate and anger. That girl needs some serious help before being allowed back into society again. if you can pour acid in someone's face at that age and have no remorse... imagine what else she's capable of

I just couldn't get over the fact that she would do such a thing and then say the girl deserved it!

I wouldn't want a child of mine anywhere near that girl! To say she has "issues" doesn't even begin to cover it.

I'm speechless. All of this because the one girl told on the other for wearing nail polish? What is wrong with kids today?

Exactly! She knew exactly what she was doing and this needs to become a criminal matter.

I have no tolerance for young adults who commit crimes.

This is horrible. I teach Chem, and I would be really upset if a student did this in my lab. I have to ask though, where were the safety goggles in all this??? We require all students to put on goggles before any chemicals come out of the cabinents. It would not have gotten anywhere near her eyes is she was wearing porperly fitting goggles. Not glasses, but goggles that sit agianst the face.

I wondered the same thing. But maybe the class wasn't working with the chemicals at the time. I think the girl might have seen the beaker (not sure why it was out, maybe they were done with a previous activity?) and saw an evil opportunity.

I know one thing. I wouldn't turn my back on that girl no matter what. Even if I wasn't the victim, you *know* now she has issues. You don't give any opportunities to issues like that.

She was charged with attempted assault -- "attempted" because there were no injuries -- and also booked for criminal possession of a weapon, possession of noxious material and harassment.

She was released because she made bail.

I thought it was nutty too, based on her statements she still seems to be a threat.

At the very least, I'd get a restraining order on the girl. (In addition to pressing charges.) I'd likely sue too, just on grounds that she isn't remorseful and she might try it again. The parents would probably reign her in if it hit them in the pocketbook.

Anyone who does something like that has to be insane (at least temporarily insane), but she knew what she was doing. What a horrible thing to do. And that picture of her in the article is just kind of

From reading the article it sounds like Zhanna Smsarian, the juvenile-offender, splashed the 10% acid solution over the head of Albina Eshimbaeva, the other girl, from behind. Goggles would probably have protected the eyes and the skin around the eyes but not protected the rest of the face, hair, neck.

Yeah, I think it's now safe to say that Ms. Smsarian can kiss any thoughts of JROTC/ROTC scholarships goodbye. She might even be barred from enrolling in the Army due to her (mid/later-teens) age at the time of the attack, I mean, I think kids can enroll at 17 with their parents' permission. And would *you* want someone on your squad who had been arrested for attacking a fellow 'soldier'? (Yeah, yeah, I know that JROTC students aren't technically soldiers but still...)

Interesting, the article I read yesterday said it was over the 22 year old man that the 15 year old victim used to date. I believe that also came from the NY Post online through a yahoo front page link.
I guess we aren't getting the whole story, not that that would excuse what this girl did, its just interesting that the story seems to be changing.

It did seem to be way over the top for nail polish. Still way over the top, but more "believable" that someone could go crazy over love or something like it. Just a bizarre and vile story no matter how you look at it though.
