Not too long ago i was watching an old Dragnet episode from the 60s. The same type of thing happen where a boy pouring acid on another guy at the movie thearter. They released the boy to the custody of his parents because there was no serious injury it just ruined the guys shirt/jacket. Later that night the boy ran away and held a group of teenagers at a pary hostage. Supposedly those Dragnet episodes are based on real cases

On our local news, it was reported that the "model student" told police "I wanted to burn her eyes out. She knows why."

I couldn't believe that when I heard that story. It is sickening. I actually went to that high school years ago.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but since she's a minor, can't she have her record -- for whatever happens to her -- sealed once she turns 18? It'll be like she never even did this.

If she convicted of a felony, she can pretty much kiss her military career goodbye. The Army is starting to tighten the ropes on persons that have convictions.

From reading the article it sounds like Zhanna Smsarian, the juvenile-offender, splashed the 10% acid solution over the head of Albina Eshimbaeva, the other girl, from behind. Goggles would probably have protected the eyes and the skin around the eyes but not protected the rest of the face, hair, neck.

Yeah, I think it's now safe to say that Ms. Smsarian can kiss any thoughts of JROTC/ROTC scholarships goodbye. She might even be barred from enrolling in the Army due to her (mid/later-teens) age at the time of the attack, I mean, I think kids can enroll at 17 with their parents' permission. And would *you* want someone on your squad who had been arrested for attacking a fellow 'soldier'? (Yeah, yeah, I know that JROTC students aren't technically soldiers but still...)
