High School Wrestling

Jake, DS,17 has is first tournament of the season this weekend. It is his final year. We hosted 6 out of town wrestlers last night... yes, SIX, sweaty, muscle bound, teenage wrestlers. After they showered, they ate meatball sandwiches, fruit, veggies, chips .. they had all weighed in early in the am and did not have to weigh in again for this tournament. YAY! They were famished. They each wrestled 4 times yesterday and are scheduled for 5 rounds today. WHEW! Jake is wrestling heavy weight. He thinks he wrestled the toughest guy in the competition yesterday.. big.. hulking fellow with a shaved head! Jake beat him with points... hope today he wrestles well!
Jake has wrestled now for 7 years. He only wrestles on school teams and is not a private club wrestler. He has learned so much and has really come into his own. He is going to college next year and hopes to teach one day. He also wants to coach. He has a big heart and we enjoy watching him with the younger team members.

Many of you might remember that Jake experienced a huge loss last year when Coach Q died while he was with Jake after wrestling practice. Jake quietly remembered Coach Q as he began the season.

So for all you wrestling parents.. especially the moms- Hope you have a GREAT SEASON!!!

I dated a wrestler in High School. They were state champions 4 years in a row. It is a lot of discipline and dedication.

YEAH for Jake! I am the Mom of a HS Wreslter also . I didnt knwo there was anyone else on the board with a Son who Wrestles .
My son is #2 in the state for 180 Freestlye/ Greco .
We are off to a great season already . We just came back from NM Rio Rancho was a tough team and then we found out they were #2 in the US for HS Boys Wrestling .

Well it was a good tournament for Jake. He only lost one match.. pinned a couple of the other guys. Those pins always feel good! The team is at least 70% underclassmen with little wrestling experience. They placed 5th today.. not bad outta 11 teams. Hollister is a big Football and Wrestling town. So the coach is used to having more experienced senior team wrestlers..but I bet these new kids will come along just fine.

The kids that spent the night with us did fairly well. They were a looong way from home.. about a 5 hour drive down the coast. So, I screamed my heart out for them during their matches too. They were appreciative and thanked me as there out of town mom. Good bunch of boys.
It was a long day.. matches started at 9am and finished up around 5pm. That gym was pretty darn funky... ah the scent of hordes of teenage sweaty wrestlers...mixed with snack bar nachos.... ewww... LOL....

Many matches and tournaments to come... the season lasts until early March.
Mad4mickey... WAY COOL.. 2nd in TEXAS.. WOWZA!!! THAT is one hard working fella! Congrats!

well neither of us has updated on our boys so here is my run down and I hope that you will give me yours .

Derick went to Districts and won 1st that pushed him into Regionals . He got 3rd there so we are on to STATE !!! YEah for my son !!!

Our team Bowie HS won the District tittle as a team and we had 8 of ours go to regionals only 4 of them made it out of regionals though : (

We leave in 2 weeks for our State comps . I will let ya know how we did .
