I just applied to a college that I really want to get into. In fact, I loved the college so much after two visits and plenty of research that I ended up comparing all the other colleges to it (forcing me to then disklike the other colleges because they didn't compare in everything). I ended up with only one college choice.

Now I am anxiously waiting for a reply from the college (which I don't expect until the end of December into January) and I fear I won't get in! If I don't get in, I don't know what I will do.

The college has everything I want in it. It is about 45 minutes away from home so even though I am definitely planning on living there, it is still close enough to home if I should need to be there. It is relatively small (teacher to student ratio is 1:21) and the campus is beautiful! It also has a very strong reputation in the major I am looking into.

I go beyond the criteria for GPA and SAT scores. I also sent in an essay (which isn't required) and 4 teacher recommendations. Everyone keeps telling me I am sure to get in...but I still have that doubt (I always seem to have doubt lol).

I got a letter from the college saying they didn't receive my SAT scores and I had sent them about 2-3 weeks before this. I checked onto the collegeboard.com and saw it takes up to 5 weeks, so I understand how they wouldn't have the scores yet...but what if they never get them? I wouldn't be accepted!

Anyway, what did you guys do to ease any stress you had? I don't think I can make it until the end of Decemeber without blowing a fuse in my head!! :rotfl:

Personally, I think it depends on the college itself. You never mentioned the name of the college.

Is it a college that has a low acceptance rate? I dont know of many colleges that turn down applications if you meet their requirements. Colleges like the Ivy league and MIT etc will, as competition is very tough and their are limited seats.

I dont know if your college is listed in this group, but this has a good acceptance rate % for a ton of colleges.

Do a google or ask search for college acceptance rates. You should be able to find it.

I know the acceptance rates. It is about 64%. It is a state college (Westfield State College). My issue is this stress! I don't think I could handle not being accepted...it is, of course, the only college I applied to...thus making is more heart wrenching if I was rejected.

I'm from Massachusetts and I know quite a few people that go to that school. I am sure that you will get in. Basically when I applied to my dream school I really didn't think about. I just concerned myself with school stuff and then when the acceptance letter did come I was overjoyed and glad that I hadn't stressed out too much.

Well I applied to 6 schools and didn't have a clear first choice until after the acceptance letters started arriving, so I was in a bit of a different position than you were. To ease the stress from waiting, well, I didnt have time to think about that; I was too busy filling out other applications for schools and scholarships and what not. I was also really busy planning the WDW trip we were taking that April, and was wicked busy with school activities. Basically I didn't have time to think.

I know you said that none of the other schools compare to this one, but if it's not too late you might consider applying to one of them. Just to give yourself a backup. If nothing else, having another app to fill out could redirect your attention. And if you've applied to more than one school you might worry less about not getting in.

Good luck!

I really wanted to go to UCLA ever since I was a freshman in high school. My friends and I dreamed about all of us going there together, and dorming together. We were all in AP classes in high school, were well-rounded as far as community service and clubs and involvement in the school went. We were also minorities. So we thought it was a sure thing we were all going to get in. Unfortunately, all of my friends except for me got in.Ii was devastated, and I still have a slight grudge against UCLA. I don't meant to be a pessimist, but right now I am just being a realist. It's pretty much a slap in the face when you don't get in because it's like they're telling you you're not good enough for their school. I've pretty much gotten over it, and realized that UCLA wasn't the perfect school for me. My school that I go to now, Cal State Fullerton, is in a safer community, less competitive, less expensive, closer to home, and I have a lot more options as CSUF than I would have at UCLA. I am a bit freer than my friends at UCLA. My point is, yes it's devasting to not get into the school you want, but it's also not the end of the world. A college degree is a college degree and when you are being interviewed for a job in the future your boss is not going to care where you got your degree they just want to know you have one. I am sure you will get into that college, if not, fight for it. And if there's nothing you can do then it's obviously not in your hands and you're going to have to explore your other options. In the mean time, try not to stress about it so much.

My best friend applied to Cal State. lol. But yeah, I totally agree about the "boss not caring where you went". My mom works with a Harvard graduate and she went to Springfield College...they both do the same thing and earn about the same amount of money. The only difference between them is where they went to college (which evidently didn't take one higher than the other).

Thanks for the help! I should hear from the college any day now...hopefully I'll be a happy person sometime within the next few days! lol.

 CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I just got a letter from my top choice - Muhlenberg College - that said my application is in and in the reviewing process... hopefully I get a larger envelope from them soon! :) I went there just yesterday to take some classes(ballet and acting) and to audition.. it was so much fun - it just felt right :)

I got accepted to my 2nd choice college, and I'm so relieved to have one down. It's really scary, because I get freaked out over so many little things that could keep me rejected from my first choice. Did I do enough extra-curriculars? Was my essay good enough? It's so stressful.

That is great!

I only applied to one school ( a small private school) when I was a senior and I got in. I think that if you really research a school you will pretty much know how well you will fit in without even receiving an acceptance letter.

This is a very exciting time for you I am sure!:hippie:
