I teach music grades K-8 and I have the task of putting on the annual Spring musical with my 8th graders. This year, the students were VERY persistent in convincing me to do Disney's High School Musical. They actually started working on me LAST April. So, I watched the movie and thought it was a "blend of Grease and Fame, without all the mature themes" that make those shows hard to do in the middle school age bracket.

Well, I announced my choice last week after receiving my contract from the licensing company. The kids are ECSTATIC!!! I mean, the fever is spreading throughout the school and ALL the kids are thrilled!

I have to admit, I'm pretty excited as well. It's such a great feeling when your students are excited about what you're teaching. Add in their personal success and man, it's a rush!

Just had to share! I really love my job and that in and of itself, is a wonderful and rare thing. :cloud9:

It is a great movie and certainly a hit with the kids. DD loved it from the first time she watched. Thank goodness I TIVOd it that night!

I noticed in MK on Friday night that they are going to start having some sort of High School Muscial show in Tomorrowland. There is a stage set up that says

High School Musical Pep Rally - coming soon.

We will be watching and waiting for that one!

My 3 DDs and I love High School Musical! :cheer2:

I'm so excited for you! Have fun!!!

That is great. My kids love the movie too. This year for cheer they are using a HSM mix for their routine. I wonder how many other squads have the same idea.

My kids and my nieces all love this movie. I cant tell you how many times we have watched the sing along version and the four girls aged 1-8 are all dancing and singing along. I get more enjoyment out of watching them.

Its a fantastic idea. My 9 year old loves the movie. I taught at a high school last year and even the high school kids loved the movie....

It is without all the mature themes of Grease and such like that. I still can't figure out why schools (with younger kids) do One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest... I KID YOU NOT!

How does the stage version differ from the movie? Just curious.

I remember watching Christmas shows in the pavillion....sigh!

Well, they have two stage versions. One is a 2 act version which is geared towards high school and up. Then they have a one act version that runs about 70 minutes that is geared for middle school - which is the one I'll be doing. I am not sure what changes have been made to adapt the movie to the stage. I won't get my materials until January. I might order a perusal copy, though, to get my head around what I have to do. I do know that both the one and two act versions include ALL the songs from the movie, plus a new song and a MEGA MIX. The mega mix sounds like it's a big finale (not sure on that) but if it is, it's a great way to end a show!

As soon as I get more info, I'll gladly post.

It's going to be such a blast!

It is not in the pavilion (Galaxy Theater) - the stage was just out in the middle of Tomorrowland. The photo is not great I took it from the TTA, and we did not walk back in that direction to get it from the ground.! Galaxy Theater is still sitting there waiting for the Christmas show!
