Well do ya?? Ds is a sophmore and he is at the first dance of the year.. This is a kid I never expected to go to the dances even on Homecoming.. but he dances the night away with his friends.. he tries to make every dance... It is nice to see him so happy.

Dh and I chaperoned ds high school dance last year.. much to his dismay..

It was a simple after the football game dance. The kids remind me so much of how we were when we were teens...

Girls clutching girls to whisper in their ears, guys standing about or climbing the peg board when no one was looking.

The clothes are different.. but the the 70's and early 80's are back in style.. some scary stuff out there:p
Ds left the house tonight armed with his glo in the dark necklace etc.. you know the dance is held in an almost completely dark gym. I was off in the smaller wrestling room selling ice water.
95% of the kids are pleasant. The other 5% leave the dance early...

So any of you remember going to the Sock Hop after the Friday night football game?

I went to an all girls school. With two all boys school with in 5 miles of it. There was either a dance on every other Friday or Saturday. No sock hops for me, as that was in the late 70's early 80's. They were in the fark, and yes the girls huddled together until some boy came and asked you to dance. Those were the good old days.

I graduated from HS in '77. I lived in a little town. so the term Sock Hops was passed down for a long time..

The HS kids today seem a little more at ease with one another. They dance in groups.. small groups.. big groups.. bouncing, around.. smiling and having fun..

When I was in H.S you HAD to wait until one of the boys ASKED you to dance.. it was the code of the H.S. gym:p

Graduated in 1971-we had "gym jams."
We often all danced together-especially
when Rolling Stones "Hide Tides and Green Grass"
was playing. My favorite High School slow
dance was "Cherish." We had dances every
Friday and Saturday night. In High School,
partially because I was sick of waiting for
boys to ask me to dance and partially because
I was just plain social-I organized "Sadie Hawkins
dances. Girls asked guys and there was much
more dancing. I'm still wild about dancing!

I graduated in 1994, but all of our junior high dances were sock hops. It wasn't because they played old music or anything, it was just because the gym was the only place to hold a dance and they didn't want us wearing hard-soled shoes in there. :)
