High School class of 2011

DS GOT ACCEPTED AT University of ILLINOIS>>:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

wonder how much money they offer???

Congrats to your son!!!!

MY dd is waiting to hear from our state U. I'm sure she'll get in, but she just wants to see it in writing. They have been posting acceptances online, but they seem to be in entirely random order. Some out of state, some who applied very early, some who applied last month, great gpa, avg. gpa., etc. It's making her nuts!! Unfortunately, her two favorite schools will not notify till April. (Neither of them have early action, just binding early admisssion.) My older daughter is 16 years older, and it seems to me that back then, there were very few early action schools, and everone waited till spring for their decisions. I'm glad that's not the case anymore.

Happy to report DS got accepted to all 3 schools he applied to. Now he has to make a choice! We are so proud of him!

DD hasn't heard anything about acceptances/waitlisting/whatever from *any* of the colleges she applied to, one of them hasn't even updated her 'portal' to show that all the materials have been received...

agnes!

I did post ..but must be in cybor space..

oh well..

Agnes - when will she hear?? Does she wait until April too??
I couldnt stand the drama.. DS#2 is going to ILL for an overnight and sit in class in January, then he will decide based on friends, I think..

Anyway, I just booked PODCAST 3.0 cruise.. am I taking this empty nest thing too fast or far???

So last week we had to turn in cap and gown order forms. I'm sure way back in the dark ages when I graduated high school we didn't have to buy our cap and gown! We must have borrowed it and returned it, keeping only the tassle.

Anybody else have to buy cap and gowns?

Same with DS.

I hope they both hear something soon. :)

Just cap and gown would have been $58 here, but I also ordered announcements, souvenir tassel and tshirt...so my grand total was $170!!!! And you wouldn't believe all the stuff I didn't buy that they had listed that people must line up and buy, geesh! Oh and mine includes "graduation fees" too, lol.

Oh, yeah, we could have bought all that too. DD decided that she'd rather make her announcements on her laptop. She's making up her own senior year scrapbook. DD is a very frugal girl.

I think that's what we're probably going to end up doing as well, printing them up ourselves.
I also told DH that if DD wanted something for when she graduated high school, we could get her a nice piece of jewelry, maybe a birthstone ring - something she can wear for a while...the thing is not many kids these days wear their high school ring when they go to college and it seems like a lot of money for something that isn't worn (but, as always, ymmv).

agnes!

:banana::banana: DD was just accepted early action to BOSTON COLLEGE !!:banana::banana:

Please forgive the shouting. We are all so, so excited and proud of her !

Now we just have to figure out if we can pay for it. :rolleyes1

DD has not even asked for a high school ring. I expected to hear about it but the year goes on an not a peep.

DD wouldn't have cared if we ordered announcements or not, I just figured it's easier so I took the lazy way out.

The amount of nonsense they sell along with the caps and gowns is insane! Memory books, clothing, jewelry, fancy paper to go in the announcements, thank you cards, etc, etc.... I thought I was being very frugal myself and couldn't believe my total was $170! I just got the cap, gown, announcements, t shirt and tassel. Not a lot of stuff for that price tag.

Did all of you have to buy the caps and gowns? This is just so weird to me! I mean, what are you gonna do with it after graduation? Why would we need to own this? Seems smarter to lend or rent them. Oh well, it is, what it is, guess I can't change the world.

I so far have been accepted into UWF and FSU. I am still waiting on UCF and USF.

Even if I get into those two, I am accepting UWF. It is closer to home and I know the area well.
I have been thinking about my major, and I have pretty much decided on Nursing.

Weren't you originally interested in Hospitality with a concentration in Theme Park Management or do I have you confused with another poster? My DD is directly admitted into a Nursing program and is thinking about taking that. She has been accepted everywhere she has applied but can't come up with a major at the other universities other than something in the sciences. I am a nurse as well and I don't think you can go wrong with a nursing undergrad. Once DD figures out what she really wants to do she can go in many directions with a BSN. Law school, med school, PA, graduate level nursing specialties would all be options.

Good luck!

I had to buy my cap and gown 25 years ago, and I had to buy them for my girls too. I've never heard of a school just giving them out.

I should have added his first choice is Mo State in Springfield. We got the housing packet but have not even opened it until after finials.

I did order announcements and an extra tassel. Our cap and gown were covered in senior fees. But still spent $125 on the announcement stuff. Seems like most kids announce high school but not college graduations around here. I think that is odd but whatever. :confused3 I am delighted to have the college chosen and hopefully just a fun last semester ahead of us.
