Does anyone know if WDW uses HFCS as the sweetener in their desserts? I'm assuming they don't..... right?

I'm hazarding a guess here.
If the are fresh baked, I would say no.
If the dessert is premade, packaged, for example cheesecake. I would say yes.

Since many of the desserts, even at some of the signature restaurants, now appear to be pre-purchased from third party vendors, I think it is likely that HFCS is used.

Great question, Lets go back to regular sugar if needed. HFCS is horrible for your body.:cool1::banana:

I just looked at the label for my giant rice krispie treat mickey head thing and while it contains corn syrup it is not HFCS. However I would be very surprised if the cakes and breads did not have it, almost all cakes and breads that are mass produced do.

HFCS=current pointless panic. No worse for you than sugar. If it says corn syrup it's HFCS.

No, corn syrup is not the same thing as HFCS.

Corn syrup is mostly glucose. HFCS is corn syrup with most of the glucose converted to fructose, which is then mixed with regular corn syrup to get the desired percentage of fructose.

Agreed ::yes::

HFCS gives me headaches, which is why I'm asking the question in the first place :goodvibes

Yes they use HFCS and food coloring like yellow #5 is in their vanilla ice cream :( Food coloring is in lots of the food at Disney. Children with sensitivities to food dye, artificial flavors, and preservatives have a hard time at Disney.

As others have said, they probably don't in things that are prepared from scratch on site but anything that comes from a supplier probably has it. It is almost impossible to find ice cream without it, for example, and I seriously doubt Disney is making their own.

We avoid it at home out of personal preference not necessity, so when we're out I don't make it an issue. It would be tough for people with real sensitivities, though, since it is in most breads, sweets, and sauces.

Aw, that's too bad about the food coloring. :( We avoid it, and artificial flavors, if at all possible.

MIL is allergic to HFCS. (Won't go into details what it does to her. ;) )
Unfortunately I have learned through her almost everything has it now a days. It seems to be a staple like salt.

Has she ever eaten in the United States before?

wow...that much be a rough go, huh?

That is rough. My cousin is allergic to soy and corn. There are practically no processed foods without some kind of soy product or HFCS in them. Her doctors didn't figure out the allergies until she was in her 30s so she's used to their side effects. She just avoids those foods when she can and when she can't she just ... deals with it.

I don't think we usually agree, but I do agree with you on this one.

Some people have issues with it, some people have issues with peanuts.

Resent research says it is not any worse than sugar, the issue is the high calorie food it is in.
(Research paid for by the soda industry?)

Other research says it keeps your brain from knowing it's full so you want more.

I've also seen studies that the sweetener in diet soda also has the same affect.

a little OT i know, but if you guys that are HFCS sensitive are looking for a good place to vacay - australia doesn't use HFCS in any of its products. the only HFCS containing products here in oz are those that are imported directly from the US and Canada

To me HFCS as well as Splenda and Equal type products are bad for us, it's a matter of it being an artifical product that our body doesn't process well. The end result in the processing is a mostly chemical substance that is made of mainly fructose which does terrible things to ones body. There have been plenty of independant studies showing the chemical breakdown including the Mayo Clinic and the American Diabetes Assoc. I understand some people don't believe it's bad for you, just like some people don't see the huge amount of hormones given to beef and dairy cattle as the contributor to the shocking decrease in age of puberty of children in the US and China (the 2 countries that use the highest amount of hormones in cattle). We all have to make a call for ourselves and our families as to what we think is best for our health.
