High Capacity Washer/Dryer Recommendations

We run an AirBnb in our hometown. The washer and dryer we have in the unit work fine for guests, but on turnover days, we are struggling to get all the linens washed, dried, folded, and put away quickly. We have spare sheets and towels, so it isn't an issue of having clean linens, but being able to put them away in the unit for the next turnover. We are seriously considering getting a new washer and dryer that are high capacity and have speed cycles. Costco's new ad has several listed, so we started researching.

Do any of you have a set that you like/dislike? How much can you fit in/how quick do they work? We have a king, queen, full, and twin beds plus towels, so potentially we have a LOT to get through.

If we pull the trigger on one from Costco, we get 2% back on our membership. But we'd be buying now. Will black Friday (potentially) have better deals that we should wait? I don't want to overspend, but we don't want to miss out by waiting either.

Don't laugh, but we always buy our washers/dryers used on online yard sales with excellent luck. Our personal set has been fabulous for 4+ years. We just aren't sure what to expect retail and sale wise, especially with black Friday approaching. Thanks for any insight.

We have an HE Top Loader LG brand. Love it. High capacity (I needed to be able to launder King bedding) with no agitator. I can wash twice the amount at one time compared to our old Maytag FLer. They weren’t necessarily cheap ($2300 total?), but we have had no issues at all and I think this is our 5th or 6th year with them? It has drastically reduced my time spent doing laundry so it’s worth it to me (and we are a family of six so they get a lot of use).

We have a basic high capacity lg front loader (got it on sale at HD last year for $499). Love it. It replaced a more expensive lg high capacity front loader. Decided I didn’t need all the bells and whistles. It washes a king size down comforter with no issues.

Many HE machines have speed cycles. I use them often for towels and sheets, especially, since those use hot water. My LG front load washer is high capacity, and the speed cycles are 15, 20, or 25 min, respectively, depending on soil level (light, medium, heavy). My LG dryer takes around 30 minutes to dry a load of towels. The set was around $1200 purchased from Lowe's in 2015. They have the steam feature, which I love.

Also have High Efficiency LG washer/dryer, been very pleased, never had any issues. Washer is front loader and does a great job cleaning clothes. They sell various sized models based on your needs. I agree as someone previously mentioned, you really have no need for those offering 25 different wash cycles and some with the second way to wash, etc. are just more things to go wrong in the future causing a higher repair bill.

another high capacity lg owner here-front load. the washer is SUPER at spinning out water so stuff dries faster than in any dryer i've owned previously. the capacity is such that i can do a california king sized fleece double sided comforter (big and heavy even when dry) no problem (i can even fit in the sheets/pillow cases with it no problem). just sheets? quick and easy to do. when dd was living at home i could do all her as well as ds's twin bedding (comforters, blanket, sheets) in one load easily.

i highly recommend getting the risers for them to save your back

If looking for economical, those $300 drawer/pedestals are something you can live without. Have your husband or a handyman build it out of plywood for far less money if the height is an issue.

I bought the GE high efficiency washer and dryer several weeks ago.. Costco
Service was excellent, delivery, set up and free take away. Great price, quick process, backed by Costco a win win. Their concierge service is excellent.
I love them both. Easy to use, huge capacity, sooo many ways and dry options.
Good luck!

I don't know anything about oversized capacity machines, but I have several other out-of-the-box thoughts:

- Have you compared the cost of buying machines vs. sending the laundry out?
- Have you compared the cost of having two sets of regular machines vs. one oversized machine?
- Will a high-capacity machine run on the same outlets you have now, or would you need to upgrade anything electrical to bring it in?
- Do you have the space for an oversized machine? I ask because my high-efficiency regular-sized front-loaders are space hogs. They're no wider than standard machines, but they are considerably deeper.
- Do you have any stay-at-home mom neighbors (or senior citizen neighbors) who might like the chance to do this extra laundry for you when you're really pushed? Could you hire a minimum wage teen to come in and do the laundry in your machines (yeah, I know, same machines, but it's not your time that'd be used)?
- What if you buy more sheets so that you're not pushed to get them laundered so quickly /don't need them right away for the next turnover. Your current machines might be adequate if you could relax the time frame.
- When you need to replace towels, consider those quick-dry types. We bought those for our youngest when she headed off to college, and they really do dry faster.
- I doubt Black Friday's your best bet (though searching can't hurt). Black Friday electronic and appliance sales tend to be the cheapest models -- thus, low prices to get you in the door -- whereas, you're looking for an upgrade /a specialty item.
- It's fairly easy to find 10% off coupons for Lowes. I've bought them on ebay (excuse me, coupons can't be sold; I've bought a plain white envelope that just happened to contain a coupon).

Don't confuse High Capacity with Fast. We bought our LG front loader High Capacity washer and dryer 5 years ago and love it, but EVERY water and soap wasting old style washer and dryer we had was faster.

My impression was the OP wants an onsite washer/dryer for use by guests and also for the OP to do cleaning when preparing for the next guests. Most rental places have a washer/dryers for guest use. If you currently have an electric dryer, the electrical connection will already be there. Typically, they recommend buying a new electrical cord when buying a new dryer.

I hate my Maytag Neptune front loader. I’ve had the door come open in mid cycle ruining my wood floors and a separate leaking problem. Also mold is constantly growing on the door seal. When I called to complain they said use bleach every load. Well you can’t use it for colors! I’d never buy another Maytag

With front loaders the key is keeping the door ajar to let it dry out.

That has never worked with my nasty old Frigidaire (it's not really that old... 11, but for appliances these days I guess that is old). I hate it and the seal ring is so nasty looking no matter what I do. I can't wait until I can afford to get rid of it.

I have heard good things about Speed Queens as far as capacity and dependability go.

Our LG has an extra latch on the door to keep it propped open to dry out. And my wife wipes down the seal and drum after every use.

My mom doesn't have the issue, but hers is much newer and she isn't doing laundry for a family of 5. I have always left the door wide open (no prop) and wipe it down and it still looks like nasty gross garbage. I also run an empty hot bleach load every 3 washes to prevent an odor (there goes all that supposed water saving...) It blows because when I can replace it, I will just have to take it to the dump because it will be difficult to sell due to its appearance. Oh well.

We just purchased a Samsung washer and dryer set. They are both huge. I often have to wash bedding and recently fit a comforter, a sheet, and several towels in one load with room to spare.

The washer has a metal drum without an agitator and it seems to work well.

The washer is the Samsung Activewash 5.2 cubic feet HE washer. Matching dryer is also huge. Purchased at Home Depot.

My wife also runs those cleaning tablets through the washer once a month. https://www.amazon.com/slp/front-load-washer-cleaner/acjpamoequo26wd

We do the same, keep it open for an hour or 2 after washing and no issues. Once a month you can pour a cup of Clorox into the dispenser and run the 'drum clean' cycle also.

I am loving our new Speed Queen washer. It is super fast and our clothes smell great! One problem with our Speed Queen washer that I would like to point out: We don't have a Speed Queen dryer, so we are always waiting for clothes to dry. LOL. We really need to dryer too.
