can anyone tell me there experiances? any weird side effects ect?
I was just put on meds today, and I am very bothered by this.
thanks for any help.

Yup. Not a fun thing to have to do. I've been on bp meds since I delivered DS. I haven't noticed any problems with the meds I've used. Taking something for bp is much better than possibly having a stroke! Good luck!

Bothered by the high blood pressure, the fact of being put on meds or the effects of the meds? I have no personal experiences, but thought might help those who have been.

My best for you.

BP meds.......... a necessary evil. My BP medication SEEMS to slow me down a bit. Maybe that's as it should be.
You say you were just put on meds recently..... Did the doctor tell you why he/she thought your BP was so high? Was it stress? Weight related? If so, follow the doctor's advice and do your best to lower your BP, which means NO meds!

Good luck!

Dave

well, high bp does run in my family. my mom & dad are both on it. but I have lost 95 pounds and I have never had high bp before! even when i was heavy! I eat healthy & get excerise, stress I heard does not cause high bp.
But I have been doing some reading, and they did find some other things going on, NOW I am thinking this sudden high BP thing is a "secondary" which brought on by another illness, AND I am looking at....cushings syndrome!
I am gonna have to talk to my Dr. next week....

pleased either.......took a few combos of meds to get me down to a good number......I take my bp in the morning and evening........and will do so for a while........my meds made me sick.....so Friday when I go in for a recheck ...we will be discussing this......not the bp meds but the potassium to make up for whatever it is I am losing......I hope you know that I want to be normal too......and not end up having a stroke......good luck to you

Hi,

I was put on BP meds last year. Believe me I fought tooth and nail not to be put on them (promised to take off some weight/exercise) but everytime I went back it was sky high.

I know my birth father had extemely hbp so I guess it's one thing he gave me. ...

Anyway, the med that I take is the generic of zestril called lisinipro(sp)? I used to take it before bed but then noticed I would never sleep straight through. So I switched it to taking it in the morning and it works great.

Everytime I go for a bp check they say it's great! Like the previous poster said "Better than having a stroke" But I know how you feel.

Hope you hear good news about your other health concerns.
Good Luck,
Lisa

Ok can I be nosy here? I had pre eclampsia with #3 and my BP was very high. I still have a BP of 130-140/85-sometimes 99. And at other times its normal like 128/75. What is your BP and what made you go to the doctor?? And do you have heart palpatations to go with it?

the last two years......but when I went for my yearly physical he asked me to come back in two weeks for a recheck and I did.....and it was even higher.....so I went back in two more weeks and holy moly....so on with meds 50 mg of atenanol and then that didn't work and he put me on 100 mg of that.....and that didnt' work and then a 50 mg of a diuretic.....now I am within a normal range I can live with.....I did hear my bp in my ears when my dear mother would call and get my bp up.....hey I even told the doctor it was my mother....honest.....they do say that high bp is a silent killer......cause you do not know that you have it......so everyone get a check every once in a while........doens't hurt .......

128/75 is OK, but the other numbers are high by today's new standards. You should continue to moniter your #'s & write them down to discuss with your dr on your next visit.

I've also had heart palpatations. My dr told me it was nothing to worry about. But, again, you should bring it up at your next visit.

I, too, had pre-E, HELLP. My pressure never came back down enough. I've been on med's for abt 4 yrs now. The first one I was on was a very low dose & had no side effects. I'm now in the process of changing. I've tried a couple of new ones & have not liked the side effects. The stronger the dose, the higher the chance of side effects.

What I'd suggest, is you do a search on the name of your med. You'll find lots of sites (like WEB MD) that will tell you the side effects.

I've been taking bp meds for over 15 years and have never had any side effects to speak of. I was a little disappointed when I had to go on them in my 30's, but it has been no big deal. The meds are expensive if you don't have insurance:( Also you can forget many OTC meds for colds/sinus.
