to prevent the hunching over while sleeping. the 2 small side panels don't do much for her and my dd gets so upset b/c she can't sleep in the car anymore now that we just switched her into a high back booster. any one else have this problem? she is 4. any suggestions or if there is a miracle product out there, i would love to hear it!!!

Switch her back to a 5 point harness seat. Much safer, and she will be able to sleep. If you get one with high top slots and a high weight limit, she can remain harnessed for several more years, until she is really ready to move to a booster seat.

Exactly what Soonerfan said!

we have the Graco Nautilus - DS is 5. I like that it is 5 pt. harness up to 65 pounds - then you can remove the harness and it is a high back and then remove that to be the booster. And as child grows, you can raise the headrest without much effort at all.

she has really outgrown that completely and in our car, she needs more room. and getting a new car isn't happening so...i know some people use blankets, etc. for them to lean on. any other suggestions?

I too strongly encourage you to consider a new booster tht has a 5 point harness. With out it she must sit perfectly upright at all times to be safe and that is just not reality for most four year olds. DGS is almost ready to move out of his 40lb seat and we are looking for a safe choice under 200.00. We too like the graco nautilus.

Cut back somewhere else and get a seat she will be safe and comfortable in.

I to would go with the nautilus. We just bought our second for use in the second car. Love it. She will be much safer harnessed as long as possible. Your one yr old should still be refacing as well. Check out car-seat.org for lots of great advice on carseats.

Which booster seat do you have? My 6 yo DD uses a Graco Turbobooster. She only ever naps on 10+ hour drives. We give her a neck pillow like you would take on an airplane. My 4 yo has an Evenflo Triumph in one car and a Radian 65 in the other. She sleeps great in the Evenflo, but it is huge! If you have a small car and you have another child, you can not fit anyone between them (I also have a 1yo DS in a rear-facing Evenflo Triumph - we have a minivan). Good luck figuring it all out.

We went with a Saftey 1st convertible carseat for DS4. I'm not sure which model it is since I'm not looking at it. We did look at the Nautilus too, but the Saftey 1st seat fit him better. He is big for his age and this one was more comfortable for him and easier for us to adjust. Like the Nautilus, it is height adjustable and reclining. It too can be used as a belt positioning booster up until 100lbs. Plus, the rest arms are movable, so your child can choose whether to leave them up or down. When I said DS was big for his age, I didn't mean overweight. His weight is proportional to his height. He has always been in the 75-85 percentile for both his height and weight. I too would suggest putting your child back into a convertible car seat.

My 63 lb 6 yr old still primarily rides in a harnessed seat. We have a Britax Regent and it works great for naps. We are taking my husbands truck to Disney which usually has the back up high back booster in it. We are switching his main seat from my truck for the trip b/c its safer and easier to nap in.

We have the Nautlius for DS age 3 and he will remain in the 5 point harness until he grows out of the weight/height requirement which is 65 lbs (I forget the height). I would consider buying another seat with a higher 5 pt. height/weight limit. :goodvibes

Oh and DS just rode to Florida (16 hours) in the Nautilus seat and slept about 10 hours very well. He says it's comfortable (well that's coming from a 3 year old!)

My 45 pound 4-year-old DD loves her Nautilus (and I do also...) We also have a Graco high back turbo booster as an emergency back-up, which is almost too wide for my car (2005 X3), it covers the buckle most of the time and I have to tug at the base of the seat to click it shut.

Before that she was in a Britax Marathon, but she has a long torso and hit the height limit on the straps. She is still strapped in 5-point and naps easily, but has so much more leg room in the car with the Nautilus. The Marathon has a pivoting base so it can tilt (for rear facing) and the Nautilus sits so much lower on the seat of the car.

Of course DD went bonkers b/c it has a cup holder! :cutie:

As a CPST I agree with the pps. At age 4 and still wanting to sleep in the car I'd sugguest a combination seat with a higher weight harness/booster. The Nautilus is a great choice, as is the new Evenflo Generations 65, Safety 1st Apex 65 or the Evenflo Maestro. The Nautilus, Generations and Apex are all 65lbs harnesses, the Maestro a 50lb harness. If your child is average or below average weight, the Maestro would be a good choice. If your child is in a higher weight percentile I'd consider the Generations or Nautilus. If your child is particularly tall I'd look at the Nautilus or Maestro as they have the tallest top slots iirc.

If you absolutely must use a high back booster you can also consider locking the seat belt. That will help keep her in place if she falls asleep.

You've gotten some good advice. But if you're set on a high back booster, my 6 year old is in the Compass B510 Folding booster. We are both happy with it. He rarely sleeps in it, but when he does, he sleeps comfortably (he looks more comfortable than my little guy in his Britax Marathon). And the back adjust for height (he's tall for his age). It also has EPS foam in the headrest - many high backs do not. Hope that helps!

We have the Britax Frontier and it is wonderful! The top goes up and down to accommodate a child of all heights. It's a 5 point harness type and will work with children up to 80 lbs! It's great for sleeping too, my daughter sleeps very well in it and it has tons of growing room for her.

We have a Graco, it's not the turbo booster one, but a step above that one for our 4 year old (still a booster). It has some extra cushions in the seat to make it extra comfy. Not much of a difference other than that though. We have a Honda CRV (mini suv) and our back seats recline. I just slightly tilted the back seat one or two clicks back. Barely noticeable, she's still safe (no flames please, as I know my child is safe), and it keeps her head back when she falls asleep.

Have you tried one of the travel pillows. They are shaped like a half donut. Get a child sized one that is soft, not the blow up kind.

Sounds like you already have the booster seat and don't want to have to buy another car seat.

I really like my Britex parkway booster seat. I does have a slight recline and padding. Not overly expensive eithor
