HIFS and Housekeeping Tips

My family of 5 (2adults and 3 children) will be staying at the HIFS for 9 nights in January. On previous trips we stayed on site have given generous tips (in cute little envelopes) to the mousekeeping staff. I was never certain if this is a disney thing to tip everyday or a rule in general. Please share with my your tipping advice for our stay at HIFS. On other vacations we never tipped our maids.

We stayed at HIFS and the Polynesian in August/Sept. We used the same "mousekeeping" envelopes at both hotels and left the same amount in tips.

There were 4 of us, so we left $4.00 each day.

We stayed at HIFS from 9/21-28 and I also used cute Disney envelopes.............there was 4 of us and I left $3 a day. I believe the rule of thumb is suppose to be $1 per person, but I have to tell you that we never left the place a mess..........

I also know a lot of people who don't tip at all, so I think it's up to each individual.

We always tip hotel cleaning staff no matter where we are staying. We tip $2 - $3 per day depending on the accomodations and how good a job they do.
