We will be staying in a secret porthole room (5020) on our next cruise. We have always stayed in a verandah room. Just a little curious to see what others thought of these rooms. We seldom use the verandah and DH thought we would save the money and put it on the REAS package.

I have 5022 and 5024 booked for a Dec 06 cruise. I figure with two teens it will give us lots of room to spread out and of course a little privacy. ;) Not to mention two bathrooms. It would not be a vacation if I had to spend four days sharing a bathroom with DH and two teens.

A few years ago we were in 5020. Great room for the price. The view was obstructed but not to bad. The room location was pretty good as well.

We have stayyed in them a few times , Good MOVE...

Hi: Last September, I was on the Magic in 5520 and recently on the Wonder in 5524. Both are great staterooms. We especially liked the location. Very quiet, also.

This September, we'll be on the Magic again and are booked in stateroom 7620 -- secret verandah room.

Does 5020 have a steamer trunk? Our TA said no but I have read they do? A few years ago on RCCL we had a porthole room and I only looked out the porthole once. I really do not care much if the view is obstructed or not (which I knew it was).

JanDave, I have read they are nosiy rooms due to the location. I am glad to hear you did not find them loud.

No, the rooms 5520 and 5020 do not have the steamer trunks. I believe the rooms next to them do, but those ones do not. We like these rooms though, and have decided if we can't get one of these rooms we are going to book one of the Cat. 11 sideways rooms across the hall (those did have the steamer trunks, I was surprised. My friends booked it on our last cruise and we really liked the layout of those rooms--but we also like the split bath and window in 5020 and 5520, so as long as we can get those we will, but the Cat. 11 rooms are going to be our next pick).

We commented on the past two cruises about how quiet it was in that section of the ship. There are no staterooms across from 5520, 5522, and 5524. 5524 is connected to 5522, but we never heard any noise. 5524 is closest to the elevators and we could not hear any noise from that area, as well. 5524 has a steamer trunk; 5520 did not.

Enjoy!

5020 definitly had last Oct because we used it to store swimwear and keep our towel animals on all week.

Someone might be interested in this site:

wouldn't print before, am trying again - here goes

COULDNT'D get the URL's to work. SO SORRY

It was a Disney site with secrets about the ship. I'll work on it and try again soon

Our 1st cruise (12th Oct 2003) we booked 13th Dec 2002
2nd cruise (9th Oct 2004) we booked 9th Dec 2003
3rd cruise (15th Oct 2005) we booked 12th Oct 2004 Onboard 10% discount and $200 onboard credit (DS thinks he is going to spend it all on smoothies :rotfl: )

All 3 managed to get a SPR. 1st cruise upgraded to Verandah room.

Then they must of put it in after September on the Magic, because we were in 5020 in September on the Magic and in 5020 in December on the Wonder and they did not have the steamer trunk at those times. They do have a chest of drawers next to the closet which is nice, but not the dark steamer trunk the have the door swing open in the front. My friends had one in their Cat. 11 room across the hall (room 5003), and I really liked it. Wished we had it too.

for all of you above who have stayed in the SPH rooms, how far in advance did you book them????

We booked our connecting SPR's as soon as they came out the end of Sept 04 for our Dec 17, 2006 cruise!! By March 05, I think, all six of the SPR's for that date were reserved!!

I just wanted to make sure we got two of the connecting ones. It is close enough to keep an eye on the teens but with a little bit a privacy for DH and I. :rolleyes1

Booked ours the week the dates opened up too. It is easier to get the SPRs for the 3 and 4 night, but for the 7 night cruises, you pretty much have to try to grab them the day the dates are released!

You had me wondering if I was imagining it so just looked at our vacation DVD. Took some footage when we were getting ready for Lifeboat drill. There it was with an alcopop on top. This was in addition to the chest of drawers.

That is great! We have 5020 again in March and I hope they have it on the Wonder now too. It was a nice addition for storing things. My friends showed me just how much they were able to put in them, and it was a lot.

The SPRS 5522, 5524, 5022 and 5024 always had the extra steamer trunk. I'm not sure why the 5020 and 5520 rooms didn't have them before (they are the non-connecting rooms, so I thought it might have something to do with the layout). Is it right next to the chest of drawers? That is the only place I would think of that it could be. We put our suitcases there.

Well it is good to hear that it is there now!

We booked our 9/1 SPR at the beginning of this year. I emailed my TA and told her what we wanted to do and she came back with the quotes. We had not mentioned a SPR but she said it was a deal and was very surprised it was not already booked.

I had thought about trying to book one of the SVR's 6634, 7120, 6134, 7620 for the next 7 day cruise we go on. Not sure if I can swing another deposit when the rates come out though. Just booked a 4 day DCL for 11/06. I work for the school system and I do not get a paycheck in the summer.
