I am not a DVC member, but we are thinking of renting points for our trip in May. I know that we will be able to get the dining plan, but if we do get the dining plan, do we need to buy our tickets thru Disney, like you have to when staying in one of their regular hotels? I would rather get discounted tickets from ticketmania, but we definatley want the dining plan. If anyone knows tha answer to this, I would love to know. I am trying to figure out the cheapest/best way to go with our family of 6, and would rather have a 2 br villa than 2 seperate rooms, but the ticket question has me stumped!! Thanks!! ;)

The dining plan can only be purchase through Disney. Its a good deal.....giving you 1 counter service, one snack, and one sit down meal every day. But you do have to book for everyone in your party.....its $37.99 per adult per day and $10.99 per child under 10 I think. Also the plan must be purchased for the whole stay. Tickmania and mousesavers will not be able to offer this but they will have theme park tickets. Hope this answered your question.

You are not required to purchase tickets from Disney to purchase the Dining plan from DVC.

Enjoy!

Absolutely true -

Scanmom - feel free to buy your tickets elsewhere if you find a better price than tyyou can get directly from Disney.

Best wishes -

if we rent points, we are treated as if we were DVC members? and have all the benefits that a DVC member would? so we could do the dining as if we were actually DVC members? thanks for all the info!! :wizard:

You can add the dining plan just as if you were a member, but other member perks may not be available to you. Some of those will require the membership card as well as a key designation of "member".

Renting can get you addicted.

my DH says I am already addicted!!! He cannot believe that so many other people are as crazy about Disney as I am!!! He has said that I need counseling!!! At this point, With a family of 6, renting points will actually save money over 2 rooms at a moderate, and be much nicer!!

Your biggest concern right now should be availability in May. If you are talking about the end of the month, it could be booked, leaving you will all sorts of negative feelings. DVC members book their vacation 7 to 11 months ahead of time, so prime times are often booked several months out.

You will have the same benefits as other WDW resort guests, EMH, sending your packages from the theme park or DTD to your resort. You are not entitled to the member benefits since you are not a member, nor are you a guest of the member. If the member is not with you, you should not get the discounts, benefits, etc.

A two bedroom villa may cost more than two rooms at a value resort, so saving money might not be realistic. However, you might save money over making a reservation with CRO at the same DVC resort.

If you do rent points and want the dining plan be sure to get it noted on the reservation. It has to be ordered before your arrival although you do not pay for it until check in. Have a great trip.

I'm not sure I follow this statement. The tickets you are referring to, DDP tickets? If it is, you buy them through DVC or Disney Direct......same thing in the long run. Its not like you can log on to Mousesavers.com and get DDP tickets. So technically if you want the dinig plan you must notify Disney's MS?Yes?No? :confused3

Doug7856 was referring to park tickets.

If you want the Dining Plan and are reserving your room for cash through CRO/WDWTC, the only way you can get the Dining Plan is to add it to a room & ticket package.

If you are staying at a DVC resort on points, there is no requirement to purchase park admission in order to get the Dining Plan. That's a nice perk for DVC members!

I wish this was a perk for DVC members. It's looking like another of those DVC benefits that any renter can get. They should have required the member ID when the dining plan was purchased and paid for.
