We are looking at getting more points and we are wanting to take trips in the summer, fall and Christmas.

The 2 questions I have are:

1. How likely is it to be able to get a room at BWV during October (food and wine) at the 7 mos window?

2. How likely would it be to get a 2 bdrm at okw a few days before up through Christmas Day at the 7 mos window?

I would think neither are likely but I could be wrong. Thoughts?

As many times as we have been to wdw we have never tried to get an Epcot area resort during F&W.

We have only been at Christmas a time or two and one was many years ago and the other was a grand villa for a couple of nights but not over Christmas Eve.

BWV is bookable during F&W, but not always 100% exactly what you want and the standard rooms are generally not available

OKW is usually open at 7 month as well as SSR

Best idea - Buy where you WANT to stay the most

We were able to get BWV at 7 months for the beginning of F&W. Last year my kids got BWV standard 1 br in Oct at 7 months. Can't say for certain about OKW but would think you could get that too.

In summary, in order to get what you want, you should book the room you want at the 7 month mark.

BWV at 7 months is hit or miss during food and wine fest. I am about 50 percent success rate on (but booking right on the 7 month mark) OKW for Christmas should be no problem.

I recently added BWV points because I was never able to get 6 or 7 contiguous nights during F&W, trying to book at the 7 month mark.

I waitlisted one night at BCV and BWV in a studio for F&W at seven months. I got the BWV, but not the BCV. And it took a while.

Buy where you wouldn't mind staying if you couldn't change at seven months out. So if you don't mind staying at OKW or SSR, buy there. But if you would hate to stay at SSR, don't buy there.

Finally bought a small contract at BCV because of the F&W. DH refuses to do any more split stays and we got tired of the crap shoot so we bought just enough to do a every other year stay.

BWV is a potential problem, OKW easy if done 7 months out. I don't think it's always a good idea to buy a higher demand resort for the part time "guarantee" of availability. Certainly if you must have it routinely, it can be a good choice. OTOH, buying a higher end option and using it mostly at the 7 month window does not make sense. It's usually better to risk not getting what you want than to be trading down routinely though it depends on how happy you'd be staying at your home resort if you weren't successful at times.

or BW view.
we booked P/G view & were WLed at 10 1/2 months for BW view oct 12-15 (one WL for 10/12, and another for the 3 nights) - neither WL came thru in all that time.

That is rough! Also not surprising. I'll bet standard view is just has hard.

I think on BWV it's really dependent on WHEN during Food & Wine too. In addition, to Food and Wine there are things like Columbus day holiday, school breaks etc which can impact certain weeks which mean some weeks are harder then others for Food & Wine.

I also think you need to just plan to pay points for a Garden/Pool view.

Keep in mind that the people buying BWV resale are doing so to take advantage of the home resort booking window. That leaves less space available for those who have to wait to book until the 7 month window opens.

On top of that, DVC is continuing to build and sell new resorts. The competition to get something at 7 months in one of the MK or EPCOT resorts is only going to increase.

The most difficult time to get BWV when you have to book at 7 months is the tail end of September through marathon weekend in January.

I only have experience with Christmas time. I think there is no problem at the 7 month mark. We were even able to change ours and get into BWV for the week around Christmas last year about 4 months out.
I say if you plan on going every year during F&W that seems to be the more difficult to get in at especially at an Epcot resort. But then will you be able to buy enough to cover the whole stay?

Thanks for the advice! We ended up making an offer on an OKW 230 pt contract today. We decided that over the next 29 years getting a few days in a 2-3 bedroom at Christmas will be more important than food & wine accessibility and as our family continues to grow we'll want more beds and bigger rooms -- all of which weighs in favor of OKW. We owned at OKW when our DSs were young and, while variety is nice, when push comes to shove OKW really is our favorite resort. Now, let's hope we get through ROFR ASAP!

I think you'll be ok booking Christmas just before 7 months at OKW. We closed on our OKW contract in April a few years ago and booked the week of Christmas in a 1 BR (Dec 26 was our check out day). The next month just before the 7 month window opened I was was able to switch to a 2BR.
