Hi from NC!

A little off topic, but I have a question for all you North Carolinians. My sister moved to Waxhaw a year ago and she is in a new development. She has more people from New York and New Jersey living there then she has people from NC.

Do the real NC people kind of recent they are being invaded so fast. From the numbers I hear, NC will definitely have to change their infrstructure and that might mean higher property taxes.

I also live in Waxhaw. My friends that don't know seem to hear dualing banjos when I tell them "Waxhaw" They think I live in the sticks of Carolina, but it is basically a burb of Charlotte. We have lived in Hunter Oaks community for 7years and love it. There are a lot of transplants in this part of the county especially, so everyone gets along great. I am originally from MD, but after graduating from Clemson ('92) in SC, I basically stayed down south. Problems between us and the locals happens when you mix the politics of the "good ole boys network", with the real life projected growth of this area. I read an article that said Union County, NC was the 23rd fastest growing county in the nation! So like it or not, the good ole boys, better get with the program.

To the OP, have a wonderful time planning your trip. We love planning and anticipating how wonderful it will be. I also heard that a no event/trip has higher expectation levels than going to Disney. But the really cool thing is Disney seems to almost always meet or exceed those expectation. Our next trip to the world is Sept 20-27. We like to start our drive Friday after the bus drops the kids off and make it to St. Augustine. We can get into the parks noon Saturday and it makes for a full weeks vacation. There is no other place I would like to be than Disney World.:wave2:

Thanks! Rockclimber, you had me until you said "Clemson" ugh. LOL I was born and raised in Columbia, SC so I'm a Gamecock fan through and through. Sorry. :rotfl:

Well, nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. :rotfl2: We can still be friends. My wife is from Columbia. She went to HS at Irmo, but she made a wise decision and decided to go to Clemson. So I guess you can say that I came down south and found my southern belle.:woohoo:

LOL Well, everyone has their quirks. I lived not too far from Irmo but went to Columbia High myself. Very cool that we have that connection. :cutie:

Is there a certain place in Savannah you like to stay/eat, etc.? We will probably stop there too.

We usually stay at one of the hotels off of I-95 at the Savannah exit. Then we take a trip into downtown Savannah - it's a good drive in but worth it because we eat at our favorite restuarant - Bella's. Any place off I-95 is fine plus there are places to eat and in the morning you just hop on the highway and off to Disney :cool1: .

I am from NC, near Chapel Hill and we are flying to WDW 8/3! Can't wait!

I work right outside Cary, which is also known as the Containment Area for Reocated Yankees, LOL.

I don't mind people moving in; just don't try to change our laid back way of life.

Marsha

I'm in NC too. We live in Concord on the other side of Harrisburg. We just went to WDW for the first time in June, right after school got out. We had a fantastic time and I've been figuring out how to get back ever since! LOL I know you and your family are going to have a fantastic trip!

We drove and stopped on the other side of Savannah, in Richmond Hill. That was exactly half way for us. Here's the information on our hotel there:

Holiday Inn
4300 Coastal Hwy 17S
Richmond Hill, GA
(912) 756-3351

It's right off of I95 so you don't have to drive too far off the highway to get there. There was a gas station across the street that had reasonably (under $4!) priced gas. Of course that was in June so who knows what it is now.

Kids eat free. I got the Best-4 Breakfast rate which includes a coupon redeemable for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The limit was $20 per room per day. So we all ate breakfast for free. We had 2 double beds and our total stay was $102.55. The rooms were very nice and very clean. The breakfast was really good. I highly recommend staying here.

Wow, I didn't realize so many people stopped along the way. We are just going to drive through the day after we leave out early in the morning. Says it's only suppose to take 10 1/2 hours or so. I am figuring 12 with potty breaks, etc. We've done it before going north. About the same distance too.

We stopped because we wanted to be well rested and to get some time in a park on our first day since it was our first trip.

Welcome, honeybee8200! Hi, everyone!

I'm not from NC, but my parents moved to Huntersville from VA in March. I gotta say that NC has some really friendly people! I'm shocked every time I go visit them. People say hi when you walk by them! Salespeople are friendly in stores!

Welcome from another NC... we are driving down in Sept. I think it should take about 9 hours. Have fun!

Hello another person checking in from NC. I am in Charlotte a transplant from NY. I will be driving down next week and super excited. It only takes me about 7 and half hours to get there. I drove it a few years ago and its not that bad. I used to fly when I was in NY but cant really see wasting my money and sky miles to fly there.

I am just now responding to the board after being away for a bit. I went to Hilton Head High School and went to Georgia Tech and then Clemson. I am familiar with Irmo as we would compete with them from time to time.

By the way... I am looking to try to have a meet and great of Disney fans (specifically DISers) in the Charlotte area. If any of you are interested, PM me. My wife and I would love to meet you!
:thumbsup2
