Great new pics on your site, but this one is still one of my favorites!!!
Thanks, Melody! Yes, that's a classic.
Any ideas how to keep my 20 month DN (AKA : 2 Foot Tornado) in one place for more than 5 minutes while on the cruise?
I would suggest devoting a certain amount of time to letting him run around like a maniac, so that he can burn off steam. During the day, the nightclub area is a great place for this. It may help to bring a few small balls to play with and chase. Toddlers are also fascinated by stairs, and there are lots of nice, carpeted staircases on board. Check with Flounder's Reef and the Oceaneers' Club. They have certain times set aside when you can accompany the child, to play with the toys.
At 20 months, my DS became obsessed with Hot Wheels cars. I had to watch him to make sure they didn't go into his mouth, but he would play with them happily for long periods of time (they were great for restaurant dinners.) The key is to have a stash of small toys that you can pull out only at dinner. Also, take turns getting him away from the table and out of the restaurant for periodic romps in the halls. Even the best behaved toddler can't sit still for a multi-course meal.
Also, even if you can't get him to nap (my DS refuses to nap on vacation, even though he takes 3 hour naps every day at home) I would still retreat to the stateroom and draw the curtains for quiet time during his usual nap time.
Most important, with a toddler, you have to be flexible. My DS was terrified of the characters, and refused to go to any of the shows. If we had had our hearts absolutely set on seeing the shows, it would have been a harsh blow, but we just found other ways to have fun and get the most out of our cruise.
Good luck!
