Just got mine today (GE Profile)...do you use the "HE" detergent? Upset that my fav detergent (Arm & Hammer for Sensitive skin) does NOT come in HE. Any other recommendations for HE for sensitive skin? And do you like the HE washer? Thanks.

YES, you need an HE laundry detergent.

If you run laundry before you buy some... use a TINY fraction of what you usually use in regular detergent. I am talking more than a couple ounces, and you can have the machine flooded in suds. (Low sudsing is the key property of detergents for front loaders)

I think that ALL is considered the most hypoallergenic.
I use Tide FREE HE. It works great. :thumbsup2

I have a Whirlpool DuetSPORT. The smaller Duet machines. In many ways they are great machines. But, I HATE them. They have some serious design flaws. They do NOT use enough water to really clean and rinse the clothes. I add a couple jugs of water to the wash... And then have to run every load thru an entire additional rinse cycle. It takes HOURS to do laundry. Many other issues as well.

So, stay on this thread and let us know how you like your new GE machines!!!!
I think I heard on morning television that they cleaned better than other washers tested... :thumbsup2

Thanks! I didn't get a front loader...top loader HE. They are supposed to take LESS time! I sure hope i don't have to add jugs of water. Did you ever complain to them?

I've got a HE Front-loader....could swear I've used Arm&Hammer HE detergent before. :confused3

I have one and it really does take less time and uses way less water. You definitley have to use the HE detergent. It stinks because you can't buy the cheap stuff, but at least it lasts a really long time.

I use All Free & Clear HE detergent. I have a Maytag front-loading washer and Maytag dryer. I wanted them to stack so I would have more space in the laundry room. I wanted HE to save on water and energy since I do a ridiculous amount of laundry every week.

I have the Whirlpool Duet Sports that a PP mentioned and I don't have those issues. I think we've run into each other on a different HE washer thread, actually! :rotfl:

Anyway, I use All Free (or whatever it is) HE for Lucas' clothes.

DH and I like scented stuff, so I only do Lucas clothes/blankets/stuff with it but so far so good, I've not had any problems with it. Gets the god awful soy formula smell out.

I'm purchasing a set this week. I have narrowed it down to 3 models.

GE Profile
Maytag Bravos
Whirlpool Cabrio

All are top loading with no agitator in the center. I think I have eliminated the Cabrio because the dryer door isn't reversible and it would be a pain to deal with the door.

Not to hi-jack this thread but if anyone has any comments on these models feel free to let me know.

All Free & Clear was suggested to us by my DH's dermatologist.

We've been using it for a long time and I love it.

Trip... throwing another into the mix - I have the Fisher and Paykel AquaSmart/AeroSmart top loading HE pair - top load washer AND dryer. It doesn't have a built in heater, like many of the HE's do. A cool thing it does have is the option for a conventional or HE wash cycle.

We're happy with the pair.

The wash cycles are long (nearly an hour) but the clothes are spun so it only takes a short time to dry them.

I also have a Whirlpool Duet Sport and the only thing I hate about it is that the CPU went out in less then 6 months of owning it. :headache:

Anyways, I went to a natural laundry detergent and order it online: http://www.jennyssimplyclean.com/. I have also used Method and love it as well.

My goodness people have had issues with that model!!

We've had ours since January of 08 with no problems.
It's because DH paid for the extended warranty probably...

I just bought an Amana Washer/Dryer set. I wanted a front loader because I have a hard time reaching socks and other little items that end up in the back of the drum. I've only used it a couple of times, but so far I love it! I use Tide, but I use a variety with Febreeze in it, I just love the smell of my clean laundry!

I've had a Bosch HE for the past year that I've been very happy with. I always use HE detergent.

I bought a new Maytag washer and dryer set in May. The washing machine is HE, but DGF makes our laundry soap so we don't have to spend an arm and leg on detergent.
The only major difference with the HE detergent is that it does less sudsing than the normal stuff.
One of DGFs sisters friends works at Whirlpool (who also makes Maytag) and says that most of their models have a de-sudsing cycle that makes it so you don't have to use HE detergent, it just takes longer to do a load of clothes.
