I've been lurking about for a couple of weeks when I came across the Camping board. Everytime I turn on the computer, this is where I come. So I thought I should finally join and post.

My name is Whitney. I am married to DH (Dave) and have two boys Christian (4) and Koltyn (8).

We stayed at the Fort for the first time last May 31st through June 6th. We took our 1970-ish(?) Apache pop up. Stayed at site 2021. It was the most fun I have ever had in my life. We pulled up to check in and I was awe struck constantly for the next 6 days. I had never been camping before. DH told me not to expect every campground to be as nice as it was there. The boys were in Heaven.

We got back and I immediately started planning this year's trip.
May 30th-June 7th. Of course, taking the pop up down to the Fort. I begged DH to stay at a hotel before we left last year. I now love the Fort. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

WELCOME... The Fort and The Dis are both very addictive. Enjoy !

Welcome! I'd love to see any pics you might have of your pop-up. I have a pop-up too {2002 Coleman Bayside Elite} and simply can't get out camping enough. We took it to FW for the first time this past January and had the best time.

I lurked and learned quite a bit before our trip and found tons of advice/tips and tricks that enhanced our stay.

Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I wasn't the choice camera holder on our last trip. We had ONE camera, a really nice Fujifilm that I borrowed from my Mom because mine was outdated. I dropped it in Minnie's house on our first full day there. Broke it. No more pics for the whole trip. And I wasn't about to buy $18 disposable cameras at the parks. This year I will have multiple cameras. But we are about to set the camper up in the next couple weeks or so to see what needs to be done before we leave. My DH has a small case of OCD and everything has to be absolutely perfect, or he can't sleep. So I will take pics of and post them then.

It has hard sides that are no fun putting together. I asked DH last night if canvas was an option, and I think he got a little excited to have a project to work on now... So we'll see...

Welcome!!!!

Whereabouts is Arley??

Arley is around Smith Lake in Winston County.
About an hour West of Cullman County.
A little over an hour NorthWest of Birmingham.

OK, probably then about an hour from me :-)

Welcome and enjoy the antics of a wild bunch of fort fiends! The fort is definatley an addictive place. We have taken many with us over the years and they are all hooked. Your DH is right, there is no other campground like it.

Welcome ya'll !!
Your husband is right, you started at the best campground, so unless you just keep camping the Fort, you may be disappointed.

Now for the good part that apparently your husband didn't tell you about,,
YOU CAN GO FISHING AT THE FORT !!!
HOW GREAT IS THAT !!! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the Disboards!:)

Sorry we'll miss you. We will be there the first part of May. Hope you have a great trip and enjoy the boards! This is a great place to share your love of The Fort and all things Disney. You will learn alot here, probably more than you want to, but we are all harmless except for maybe a few exceptions....:rolleyes1

Again, WELCOME!:yay:

Thanks everyone. I am looking forward to all the things I will learn. And fellow campers I'll get to meet.
I cannot wait to get back to the fort!!! :woohoo:

Welcome Whitney!!! My wife was just like you....she half heartedly agreed to camping at the fort...simply to amuse me...but by the end if the first trip (we stayed in the cabins) she let me buy a golf cart...by the end of the second trip(we stayed in a tent because she was so impressed on the first trip)we were talking about buying a camper. Who knows what the 3rd trip will hold for us.

I think the anticipation your feeling about getting back to the fort qualifies as official FIENDISM.....you're now a Fort Fiend!

Welcome, we should be there about the same time if all the other stuff works out, June 2 to the 9th maybe we will run into each other. :yay:
