We are at Universal now and decided to try HHN. We will be going tomorrow night (Wed. Oct. 12). I think I read Finnegans is best holding area to wait in. What should we do first as soon as they let us out of there and any other tips after that? TIA! We will not have EP. Just can't budget it.

We used to do Finnegans but there's nowhere to sit if you don't have a table.........steps outside can give you a numb bottom!

We tend not to go in early now as we can go so many times, so stay and scream doesn't appeal, but on our last night we ended up in The Simpsons area to wait........

It was so good. Plenty of seats and lots of places to get a drink and bathrooms too.

Only bit of advice I would have is to budget in EP!! It's worth every penny. Are you sure you can't swing for it?

HHN last year was the best night out we've ever had with EP. Avoided the 2h+ lines.

Finnegan's is pretty good - but getting a spot at the bar or a table can be tough - the earlier you get their the better obviously.
There is decent entertainment as well and I think that gets you into two houses pretty quickly - I think I was able to do exorcist and walking dead almost on walk on if I recall correctly.
Also being a Wednesday it may not be too busy - so that is a plus - if you decide the lines are out of hand you could add EP if you really need it.

The only other holding area I tried was Diagon Alley - but it seems that's not an option anymore and that only got yo to the lunatics asylum.
I meant to try Simpsons but did not as having a Guinness at Finnegan's is a nice option.

Also all the houses don't open right away- they seem to stagger them. Lines can start before they open though - for example people were lined up outside the entrance to the line for Krampus - and then we got in pretty quickly.

It really depends on which house you want to see first. If you want to see American Horror Story w/o much of a wait then plan on the area outside the Hello Kitty store. If you want Halloween II plan on Springfield. For The Exorcist and The Walking Dead head to the Finnegan's area. I used the Finnegan's area for year until I discovered Springfield last year. There really is no comparison. Springfield offers plenty of inside seating with A/C and you can buy food and drinks while you wait. But again...it depends on which house you want to see the most.

If you can find it in your budget, I would spring for EP, if possible.

In 2012, we did 4 houses in 6 hours without express pass. And a few weeks ago we did all 9 by 9:30 with express pass. Which gave us time to ride rides, check out the scare zones, etc.

I would also agree with the other posters who recommend EP. I have it this year and the lines are much more enjoyable than w/o.
