Hunter182, I do have some information from people who have worked at Halloween Horror Nights if it is at all helpful to you. I am getting mixed reports.
A singer at Universal Studios works with my husband. She says that it is a lot of fun because she just loves Halloween so maybe the only real requirement to enjoy HHN is simply to have a strong appreciation for the holiday.
I interviewed for another job with another company with someone who knows that I currently work at the front gate of Universal Studios while she used to work for both Universal Studios and Walt Disney World in special events. She told me that HHN's is a very rough event. She said the words "very rough event" three times within about a minute to really make her point. While the money was very good at HHN, there are about 300 arrests there every year according to my interviewer. She said that there are a lot of drunks watching very violent scenes while waiting in line, and that the lines are very long. Then she asked me what did I think was going to happen in such an environment. Yet even she liked to go just to see one show, and she did not specify which one. I wish that I had asked.
My advice for what it is worth, which might not be much since I have never attended HHN is to go early if you choose to go and leave early as well. When the liquor starts flowing, so do the tongues in environments with no violent scenes to excite and incite people. As someone else pointed out, HHN is not trick-or-treating with dancing pumpkins. It is slasher horror. Perhaps go early and leave as soon as you feel that the crowd might be about to turn ugly. Maybe everything will be just fine though. Remember Christmas is supposed to be peace on earth and goodwill and all of that syrupy sentimental stuff, and yet people have been crushed to death by the shopping crowds while I have never heard of a homicide at HHN.
