DH and I are visiting Oct. 28th thru Nov 1st. I want to see HHN but it is rather expensive for just a 6pm event start. I have never done this event B4. Can you tell me if it's worth the money and which days (Oct 29th, 30th or 31st I should go) if we do decide to do this? Also I heard about an upgrade to VIP?? What is that? Anything you can add will help! Thanks!

I think if you are into Halloween and enjoy haunted houses, then it is definitely worth checking out at least once. This would be a prefect year to go too, from the photos I have seen,it seems that the Universal Art and Design team members are really going all out with the scarezones and houses.

Out of the dates that you listed, I would go with October 31st. Granted the park closes at 12:00am rather than 2:00am, but I have read that Halloween night tends to be less crowded for some reason and especially now that Halloween falls on a Sunday this year.

I believe the VIP upgrade you heard about is called R.I.P. TOURS. There are two types, Non-Private tour and Private tours.
For the Non-Private tour you and a group of other guest are taken on a walking tour of the event with V.I.P. access to the houses (Get to go to the front of the line) and reserved seating for Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Show. The price for the is,
$150.00 per person, plus the price of event admission.(Non-peak nights) $175.00 per person, plus the price of event admission. (Peak nights)

For the Private tour it is just you and your Family/Friends (up to 12.) It is also a little more tailored to the houses and shows you want to see, and you can also go on some of the rides (which you can not do on the non-private tour.)
$1,500.00 per group of up to twelve, plus the price of event admission (Non-Peak nights) $1,800.00 per group of up to twelve, plus the price of event admission (Peak nights)

I have never done the RIP tours so I can not really say if it is worth it or not, but hopefully someone on here has and can explain it to you in more detail.

If you are a fan of being scared, haunted houses and Halloween fun in general...YES!!! This event is worth every penny spent. This is NOTHING like some of the events that are held at other theme parks such as six flags..its MUCH more involved and fun..

While the event is sort of pricey, you get a LOT out of that...It is not only your park admission, but also all the extras of the park going on.

Of the days you posted...Oct 31 is probably the best night...even though it is Halloween night, it is a Sunday off peak night...and being a Sunday, many skip it due to work the next day...I myself prefer to go on a Thursday or a Sunday..

If you do choose to go, look into Express Passes, and also Stay and Scream..both are a great way to get a leg up on the crowds.

We've done the VIP (RIP tour) and can say although it is pricey, if you only have 1 night to see/do everything, and can afford it, it is well worth the price as you are guaranteed to see all houses/scarezones and the Bill and Ted Show.

Even with October 31st historically being not busy, keep in mind that unless you do the Stay and Scream option (which means you are physically in the park during the day and head to the Stay and Scream holding area to wait while they clear the park of daytime guests), you won't be granted access to the park until they open the gates at 6:30 pm (the event on the 31st runs from 6:30pm – 12 midnight). Whereas if you do the Stay and Scream option, you are released from the holding area around 5:45 pm or 6:00 pm so you can actually get a head start on the main gate crowds by getting in at least 2 or 3 houses.

If you go the Stay and Scream option (providing you have daytime tickets to the park) your cost would be $34.99 per person plus tax for the event ticket.

If you go the VIP/RIP tour route, remember that your VIP/RIP tour price does not include the cost of admission to the event itself ... so if you were looking at doing one on October 31st, it would cost you the $150 per person plus tax, plus $74.99 plus tax for the event ticket (or $34.99 per person plus tax for the Stay and Scream option).

I would strongly suggest that if you only have the one night and aren't able to afford the VIP/RIP tour or the Stay and Scream option, that you at least look into getting express passes to ensure you see everything you want (I think of it as insurance). For October 31st EPs would cost $59.99 per person plus tax. I would also suggest that you are at the main gates to Universal by at least 5:00 pm as the lines to enter can get quite long, especially with having to go through the metal detectors before you get to the turnstiles.

Also, since you've never been to HHN before, just a word of warning ... the event is very intense ... the scares are very much "in your face" and if you are the skittish type with these types of scares, the scareactors will gravitate towards you - especially in the scarezones ... it's definitely not MNSSHP!!!
