TR: IOA/USF/G-Force/Dixie Stampede 10/31/03-11/01/03
Cast Me (39)
Wife (34)
Daughter (12)
Cliff Notes:
Light crowds at IOA/USF, even for HHN.
G-Force was worth the $27 for a 0-112 1.8 second ride.
Dixie Stampede is worth it, food is excellent, show was full, make reservations if going.
10/31/03 IOA Arrived at 9am, most rides had a 10 minute wait. Dr. Doom had a 40 minute wait. This is the one ride where you use single rider, express pass, or forget it. Daughter and wife wanted to stay together, so we waited the 40 minutes for our ride. The line crawls because the hotel people take up the spots, but thats life. Continued our lap around the park, got soaked on Rip Saw Falls. Had lunch at Confiscos. Daughter had the 3 cheese pizza, me the bar-b-que specialty pizza, wife had the mahie mahie fish. Wife liked her dish, ate it all. Pizza was good, but I like SWFs better because they give you a mound of fries. I mean, pizza is pizza, Im not complaining, but the Spinach at Voyagers in SWF is really good. Checked into cheap hotel, took a nap.
10/31/03 HHN 12 year old daughter went with me, wife stayed at the hotel. Entered IOA at 04:30pm, grabbed a happy hour beer at Nascar café (of coarse), got a ride on Dr. Doom waiting about 20 minutes, again, the line crawled. Headed to the stay and scream area, more happy hour beers, then headed to Psychoscerapy at 6pm. It was scary for Ashley, but I told her what to expect. I was laughing the entire time, the scaretors got her good many times.
Quickly moved to Die In Drive in, got right in. Next, continued to Fear House Revisited, and there was already a 20 minute wait. Seems they let the GP in early. Daughter was still scared a lot, but was starting to get the hang of what to expect.
On to Ship of Screams, no wait. Continued to Fun House of Fear, about a 10 minute wait. Rode JPRA in the dark, fun. Got in line for Jungle of Doom, waited about 15 minutes until it opened at 8pm. Watched the Infestation show, and then Ashleys feet were tired, so we left, but had a lot of fun, and bought a t-shirt and the glow in the dark coke with the red eye ball that lights up. Yeah, Id say 12 years old is where the kids can handle it.
11/01/03 USF 1st in line at the gate, went into the first show of Shrek4d. Can the preshow people stop with the prisoners, torture and flogging lines? Its old and not necessary. Wife and daughter enjoyed the show. Wait for Neutron was 10 minutes. MIB had no wait, same for ET. Park was practically empty, except for Shrek and Neutron. Wife and Daughter went back to the hotel room (tired feet again), I went to Old Town and SWF.
11/01/03 GFORCE (Old Town) You can visit www.screamscape.com to see pics of this new ride. Its $27 for a single rider, 10 for a passenger, $20 for a re-ride. You climb into a dragster that is blasted down a track going from 0-112 in 1.8 seconds. Is it worth it? You bet. The acceleration never seems to let up. Its over in a flash, but a lot of fun. Went to SWF and got a few rides on Kraken.
11/01/03 Dixie Stampede This is a fairly new dinner show (thus the long report), adults are $44, children are $18. The 06:30pm show was sold out, so we went to 08:30pm. You walk into a pre-show area where you buy slushie drinks in a boot, no alcohol drinks (whaa). The MC comes out on a horse on stage, the horse has lights on him, as does the MC. He sings a few songs, goes into the crowd with his horse walking between the tables where people are sitting, even goes up stairs to the 2nd level and walks around letting everyone pet the horse. Then you enter the main show area. Its a rodeo arena, every seat is good. Show starts, horses ride around, lots of dancing, singing. Servers come down your row, giving you coke to drink in a large glass tumbler. Dinner is served. Its a full roasted chicken you eat with your fingers, meat falls off the bones, potatoe wedge, piece of bread. Desert is served after that, its an apple turnover pastry, great. Show continues with barrel racing. Ice skaters come down from the ceiling, bubble effects happen. All kinds of things going on. They have a grand finale, where all horses come out and do a final number. Show ends, you leave a tip for the server, and leave thru the gift shop.
I thought the story of Arabian nights was better and had more drama with the black stallion leaving and then coming back. But the food at Dixie Stampede is much better.
And on the way out of the show, you can pet the horses, feed them carrots, and take pics.
Now, you cant bring cameras or video cameras of any kind into the show. They have signs up that state it over and over. I did sneak my new Sony V1 into the show, and the servers didnt say anything as I snapped a few pics with the flash off. Dixie Stampede is worth going, just be sure to call a few days in advance if you want the 06:30pm show.
