I'll be keeping updated info of each visit... so for my first night, here's a rundown of my first impressions:

Sunday, Oct. 5, Crowds were thicker in some places than others with Marvel (for once!) being the least crowded of the main 5 islands. House lines peaked around 8 and slowly decreased throughout the night. Here's what I thought of the houses right off the bat in order:

1. Die In- If you are a fan of these movies, which I am, this is THE house for you. Halloween is the first and longest segment of this house. Lori Strode's home is very well detailed and the spots where Michael pops out is set perfectly for him. There's one creative scare in here where it looks like Michael is dead on the stairs, but of course Michael never dies. The next portion is Camp Crystal Lake. Jason never really freightened me, but with the vicious actors playing Jason, it made it hard not to flinch. One particularly effective scare was a long dark woods path. I stared down in and slowly Jason began to walk forward until I can see his shadow then burst into a run and stabbed rather close to me. It also includes a scene with bunk beds, but as long as you keep your clothes on, you should be fine. From here we enter the scariest part for me, Hell's furnace. It's where Freddy dwells. The actors in here really have Freddy down. The upclose taunts were nice and very scary. He would get right up to your face and flash his claws. Next up was the most magnificant recreation over Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Early in the halls, we see the big clunky door Leatherface pulls back to take his first victims in the movie. This time it's for us. After a couple halls, we encounter a recreation of the dinner scene. It really feels like it's out of the movie here! If you escape, you enter the room where all your nightmares return. One after the other, our haunts come at us. Once we're out, we get one last scare from Leatherface. It really does justice to the classics, definitely one for the fans!

2. Psycho-scarepy- The best actors in any house I have ever seen are right here. All of them truly look insane. It starts with the inmate out front telling about the asylum. "It's the happiest place fr... here." "We've got rooms with a view of water, but it's toilet water so you might not want to touch it." The receptionist welcomes us and we enter a long room with many doors and openings. You can fill in the blanks there. Next is the padded electro shock hall. It's blinding and therefore effective when the actors do pop out. From here we enter where the actors really show off an odd crazy side. An inmate operates on a messed up patient, "Uh oh." If they saw my glowing cup, they would say, "Ooo, pretty green." Or if you were to say something, an actor might repeat it and laugh. The TV room also shows off the depth this house has. A inmate stares blankly at the cartoons on TV cradling a ragged stuffed animal. The toilet room is next and the thing everyone remembers. The stench is rotten and the walls are feces covered. Skipping a few rooms, we wind up in the showers where we get hosed by a few crazy inmates. Every walks out talking about the toilets, but pay attention to the perfect acting in here. Look in the actors' eyes and see the madness each one has. This is easily one of my favorite houses of all time simply due to the acting and nice props. Die In beats by a hair just because it caters to my love of classic monster movies.

3. Screamhouse Revisited- It's back and better than before! It's got most of the stuff from last year moved around and shorter with some new scare placements and some new scenes. The Caretaker is there again and is wonderfully played to make him look fake. The best new scene involved a giant distorted head which happened to be on an actor and a bizarre statue like thing laughing at you. The strobes seemed stronger and especially blinding. Forget trying to walk through the mist with this thing going off! Otherwise it's similar, but improved, don't pass up the retake.

4. Ship of Screams- I only got to do this house once, and really want to do it again because I have a feeling there's a lot I missed. The theming is very intense and the sinking ship feel works. You will get wet in this house to some degree or another, particularly in the final scene. I really liked it, but again I feel I have to do it again to be able to describe it well enough. For a gauge on how good this year was, this house was better than last year's best, Screamhouse.

5. Funhouse of Fear- I don't really understand the 3D here, but it does distort the vision allowing for better scares. A lot of the scares here were the same, clowns with noisemakers. Not really all that effect when it's done many times. I only did it once, so I'll have to go back and give it another go next week. The clown head trick was very well done and it was an improvement over Fear Factor last year. The house is fun to visit, but is not worth too long of a wait.

6. Jungle of Doom- I liked the way they used the outdoors this year with the narrow paths created by dense shrubbery. However, there were no unique scares throughout and there weren't that many when there were scares. The whole voodoo atmoshpere works, but the music just didn't fit with the dead time between scares. Maybe they just weren't hitting me and I'll try it again, but this one just doesn't have too many positives on its side... besides dancing to the conga music with the glow cup.

Infestation was fun and the Director had plenty of witty quips to go along with the presentation. The three I saw just weren't scared, so it didn't really work too well. I suppose it all depends on the subjects.

Bill & Ted was very good this year despite some negative reviews. It parodied among others: Sadaam, Osama, Stripperella, Charlie's Angels, Chicago, Shmiegal, Pirates of the Carribean, *******, Matrix, and the Appliance Direct commercials.

Scare Zones- JP, LC, and MSI were good, TL was bad. The leaf blowers with the foam in Toxic City was probably the best touch. JP used good misdirection with the crazy voodoo guys. LC's Ice leader and Fire leader were very well costumed. This island also featured the very cool air pop guns which I saw last week at HOS. As for Port of Entry, the stilt actors had great costume design.

From my first visit, this is my favorite event of any HHN or HOS events I've been to. The top 4 houses are all better than last year's houses. The scare zones however, declined a bit. The absence of the Treaks and Foons was too bad for these Inks and Blots. Lost Coninent was the big winner over last year. Marvel and JP were about equal. The Inks & Blots just really brought the net quality down. The houses are what counts though and they're awesome, so go visit!

Sounds like you had a good time. Scary, but fun!

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing.

We are going to the HHN for the first time on November 1st, thanx for the detailed descriptions of the houses.

Thanks for posting Rocketman!

Great HHN report! I'll be reading as you update each visit. The details were excellent and made me able to visualize it better than I have been able to prior. Sounds soooo scary! Hope you enjoy your future visits as much as you did this one! Thanks for writing.

Hi Rocketman, Just reading your post nearly frightened the socks off me! Should be great. Thank you very much and I hope you have a wonderful second visit.

Thanks for this report. I know now more about what my DH saw then what he was able to tell me, lol. I think it is great you can remember so much detail, thanks again :)

Fly Fly

Are you going to HHN????

They talked you into it????

I definitely want to hear about it if you go.

SpideyHulk - I am going on October 17 if Barry can find a few more people to join us. If not, he doesn't have to worry about it and I won't go (no big deal...just want to see Bill & Ted Show and ride the rides at night. No interest whatsoever in the haunted houses) :p

Sunday, October 12th, crowds got very heavy around 8 to 9. I think it was because Monday was a holiday for some people and that may've increased crowds.

Psychoscarepy was first to open as usual, so we did that first. We were actually the first ones to go through for the night. The hallways were a little darker this time. Otherwise everything was the same. Great house, great actors. Went through it again then headed to Screamhouse.

Screamhouse was about the same as last. Only thing changing was the initial hallways were darker and the path split around the operating tables.

Die In was a short wait and remained so until around 8. Did that once and was great as usual. It also came with maybe the best scare of the event so far for me. It was in the final room with various sheets covering points of view. I came up around one and there one inch in front of my face was Michael Meyers. I could feel the actors breath through the mask. This was a big scare and was also kind of cool since Halloween is my favorite movie series of the 4 featured in this maze.

We decided to hit Jungle of Doom before the lines got too long. On the way, we noticed the scares for Immortal Island had gotten better over the week. This is the best scare zone this year. Getting to JoD, the line was 60 minutes. We waited since the others had not yet done this house yet. It ended up being longer. I wanted to give this house a second chance as I would Funhouse later in the night, but unlike Funhouse, JoD failed to redeem itself. It was perhaps worse this time. There is little to no good about this house. The scares are abysmal, the sets are minimal, and the house is short. I don't know if I'll do this house a third time.

Passing Funhouse of Fear, it was a 120 minute wait. We went and did Hulk in the single rider line which turned out to be no wait. We backtracked and did Ship of Screams which had about a 20 minute wait. Not bad considering the other house waits at this time.It took me this second trip through to realize this isn't supposed to be an intense house, it seems to be more of a atmoshperic house. It creates a scene and the actors are part of a living set. It sets out to do this and succeeds in that aspect. One particular scene that I like is one in which we can see onto the deck. A skeletal actor rocks in a chair as lightning strike from above. Nothing scary, but it gives a feel for what this whole house is about: atmosphere, not scares.

We backtracked to FoF seeing it was 75 minutes. We got in line and I went in hoping it'd impress me. The first night it was lackluster, but this night it improved tremendously. Everything came together this time. The lion cages, the open scenes that utilize the 3D, the carnie game, the blinding red & white room, the teeth game, and the mirror maze was a particular stand out. As we walked through the mirror maze we could see a clown ahead of us in the mirror directly facing us. We had no idea where it was though. A few seconds later it came out from the right. That's a nice little play with the mirrors. A lot of fun this go through and a soaring imrovement. I give this house a lot of credit and it improved in my house rankings.

We caught the last Bill & Ted show. It was a little livlier than my first viewing. A bit better infact, but not a significant difference.

After the second week I rearranged my house ranking a bit and feel I can rank the streets now:

Streets-
1. Lost Continent- plenty of scares with many unique ways to do so.
2. Jurassic Park- Good theme, walk around here instead of doing JoD!
3. Marvel- I like the suds as well as the masks and leaf blowers.
4. Port of Entry- Good costume design.
5. Toon Lagoon- They added more fog, but still is ineffective.

Houses-
1. Die In- Still the best!
2. Psychoscarepy- Awesome acting!
3. Funhouse of Fear- Huge improvement, hopefully it'll remain at this level.
4. Screamhouse- Good scares, Funhouse better for now.
5. Ship of Screams- By no means bad, great set design.
6. Jungle of Doom- So far below all the other houses this year.

Great report! Thank you for sharing. All your details make it feel like we are there with you!

Thank you so very much for such a detailed post. I thoroughly enjoyed it. So very detailed.

Wish I could go..but I'll just have to wait till next year.
Does anyone know where I can find pics or anything like that?

I'm going to try and restrict this to the major points of the night since Thursday is another visit!

Wednesday, Oct. 15, crowds were very manageable. Lines never exceeded 60 minutes. First night I was with a small group and we got plenty done. Here's the rundown of points of interest and changes:

Went to Die In especially early during Stay & Scream and was open. We had an awesome experience in here because it was only the 4 of us in the entire maze. All the scares were directed at us. The only minus to this is that we got lost in the pumpkin room and started hitting mirrors. It didn't help when David started smashing the pumpkins into each other. Anyway, we did it like 5 or 6 times straight with rarely another in the house with us.

Funhouse of Fear wasn't as impressive as last Sunday. It seems to vary too much which hurts itself in my rankings.

Saw another installment of Infestation. It was an older actor than the one I saw before. All though he wasn't as funny, he had a certain wit to him. I like the show, I don't think it's a total waste as some would leave you to believe.

Perhaps the biggest change of the night, Bill & Ted. I was getting suckered into seeing it a thrid time, so I thought I'd make it interesting and sit in the front row. First of all, let's say the scenary was nicer up there::yes::. Secondly, there's a lot of background character action I'm just now picking up and it's hilarious! Things include: Johnny Depp's character getting bizarrely intimate with a wooden crate and the Matrix character going hogwild in jail. Worth a couple views to catch these hilarious bits!

Lastly we decided to get in line for Funhouse timing it right for Lizardman's show on the hour. It was roughly the same show at last year's Screamhouse, but still very entertaining. Funny and disturbing, winning combo!

Another winner!!! Thank you for sharing these reports. I think it's fascinating how each time you have a different perspective. Thanks for keeping us posted!!!!:D

Thursday, Oct. 17th, crowds were too heavy. I didn't see any houses over 90 minutes, but the crowds in the street were way too thick to put up with. We left by 11:30.

I did all the stuff early accept for Bungle of Doom. Nothing really changed. I find that going the opposite way in the Screamhouse operating room and scaring those coming the other way to be a new way to entertain myself in that house.

Funhouse has been inconsistant for the second straight night and is not up to form on what it was last Sunday. Because of the inconsistancy in quality, Funhouse drops back down to #5 on my house list. Still enjoyable though.

Checked out Poseidon tonight on the basis of rumors that new script and effects were being tested on Horror Nights. Nothing changed, so don't bother looking if you've heard the same thing.

Find something new and entertaining each night. Wednesday it was Bill & Ted's little background gags. Thursday it was watching the rock stilt men in Immortal Island scare people. This is one of the more neat scares and it gets the guests every time.
