A few observations about this years HHN. First, we were only there one time before, four years ago, so this is the basis for our comparison.

This year, there were more houses, but less overall atmosphere. When the event was at IOA (four years ago), the paths were all fogged over with Scaractors of different kinds all over, not just in the houses. It was actually disorienting, with the fog and colored lights and lasers, and really made just walking the paths an event. This year, other than the one little alleyway with the cage and a couple of characters, one bride of frankenstein, and the chainsaw men, there was nothing. Very few and far between. No fog, no atmosphere, just the houses. I realize that IOA has less sound stages and can not hold as many houses, but the five houses they had before were far superior to me than this years event and it seems like there was far more effort put into making the paths into an event in themselves in the past.

As far as the houses, I thought that this years clown house was great. Freddy's house was good, the Mary Shaw house was okay, as well as the Vampire house. I thought the Friday the 13th house was lame. It seemed like the same masks were at every turn and there was a lot less use of makeup and variety of victims/monsters.

As far as Bill and Ted, highly funny and entertaining as usual, pushing the envelope a bit further each year.

Overall, we had fun and will go again, but it was just not up to par with that of four years ago. Also, I think when it was at IOA it was cool to ride the outdoor rides at night while the event was going on. Just my thoughts for anyone interested and no offense intended to anyone who disagrees.

2005 was my favorite year because it was held at IOA but used the soundstages for several houses and I totally agree that IOA lends itself to be much more creepy with the landscaping and overall atmosphere. Even though I enjoyed myself Friday night and will go several more times this year, I really wish Universal would open it back up again. The Studios just can't duplicate the same feeling from IOA.

I attended HHN for my first time in 2001 which was the last year it was at the Studios. Then after several years at IOA everyone starting complaining that they missed the Studios. So last year they bring it back to the Studios and everyone still complained that it wasn't right. Everyone felt that with the size of the crowds last year that both park should have been utilized to some degree. Then this year rolls around and once again it's at the Studios. But the theme is Carnival of Carnage which IMO would have worked a lot better at IOA with the pre-existing theming. However, after seeing the horrendous crowds last year, you would think they would know better then limiting it to one park. They should have expanded on the layout of HHN 14 with less dead space in between everything. So instead, their solution was to add an 8th house and another show in hopes of taking people off the streets. :confused3A major complaint last year was that the scarezones sucked and were short and too few. Their answer to this problem for this year was eliminating the scarezones completly??? I say the money the spent on the 8th house and 4th show should have gone to the streets this year. Every review I have read has had nothing positive to say about the streets and that sucks becuase when your not in line for a house the streets are what builds you up and create the mood. In essence, the first year I attended has given me a false hope for what the Studios are capable of executing during HHN.

I loved 2002 at IOA. It is my favorite HHN to this day becuase the streets were so busy with scareactors and atmosphere. 2005 failed to acheive that feeling for me and is my least favorite HHN that I have attended. Both IOA and the Studios have shown us amazing events and I think were about do for a co-op HHN again. The thing about IOA is that it can't hold as many people as the Studios can and in reality, the Studios is so big that it's hard to decorate all the streets. I don't know, I'm just rambling now.

I'm going again tomorrow night with Macraven and I'll be looking to see what changes...if any...were made after the first weekend.

That really sucks to hear about the scare zones. My favorite were the corn field from 2004 and the zombie area outside of Mummy in 2006. I always loved walking through those. I always thought the Chainsaw people were really lame and now I'm hearing that is all they have in the one scarezone?:sad2:

I am so gutted about the lack of scare zones :sad1:

I was really looking forward to them, almost as much as the houses and can't believe that they've decided to not uses them
