Hey all :D

Been following DIS and DIS Unplugged podcasts for a long time but never been brave enough to post on the boards!

We are headed out to Orlando in Nov from the UK and my husband is planning on heading to the final night of HHN 2017. He has been desperate to go for years but our trip has never fallen at the right time.

I will not be joining him as I will be looking after our 7 year old daughter back at the resort (I am also a HUGE scaredy-puss)

So to my question.... any tips for a newbie to HHNs who will be traveling solo to the event?

Thanks so much for any help or tips :)

I do not know how much he'll enjoy getting "scared", so my tip that I typically tell people is if you're not at an attraction to walk with a purpose, keep alert, and don't seem intimidated about what is going on in the parks.

There are a lot of scare zones and not only they smell fear, but like to surprise people. That being said, if you stick with walking with a purpose, keeping your eyes open, and don't seem intimidated they normally do not try so much with you. And if they do, at least you know it was coming and won't be giving the jump they were looking for. I give this warning not only, because some people do not feel the need to be jump scared 24/7 in the park, but also, because one time my father told me a story about how a co-worker of his had a big 'ol beer he barely started enjoying, before getting a surprise from behind, and ended up spilling all his beer. Which sucks, because well, if you don't mind being scared, it's still upsetting, because beer costs a lot in these parks!

I go by myself a lot. It's fun to watch people run around like they're scared. Sometimes I'll sit back near the scare zones and just watch people. I always smile at people and don't be intimidated. They will sneak up behind and yell in your ear. I've never felt uncomfortable there alone.

Welcome to the boards.........we don't bite honest........:D

Macraven always has a thread running closer to the time, when folks put the dates they are going to HHN........lots of folks go solo and are happy to meet up......sometimes just for a chat or to tag along and do houses with each other.......

Plenty of folks do solo trips.......they always have a blast!

Watch out for threads over next few months........

Absolutely watch for the "Official" HHN thread Mac puts up. The first post will list dates and who on the boards is going when. You can then send a Private Message or a mention on that thread you would like to "companion" with other DISers and go from there. A new member contacted me in 2014 because he was going solo and my (now) DH and I met him at a prearranged location and went through houses together while having someone to talk with. If you will also purchase the HHN Express Pass, include that information. They are different lines. You may meet some cool Dark Siders.

Keep posting, you will need more than a post count of "1" to send a private message (PM) to a member.

i do a lot of nights of hhn solo

i usually see very few solo peeps get pounced on for a scare during the event

the SA get more gusto when they can pick one person out of a group to scare.
it gets a bigger audience.......lol

yep, when all the tickets costs go live, i'll be starting the Official HHN thread.

Not even a nibble? Where's the fun in that? Lol

OP imo it's very helpful for first-timers to do their homework...

*watch videos posted on youtube people have shared

*read trip reports here in that thread, many are chocked full of pictures. Schumigirl in post #4 always has a winner.

*the upcoming "Official" HHN will have all the basic info in one spot.

*develop a route/plan as to whether he'll be purchasing a EP. If not, make sure to figure out what house are the must-do's/popular & get them in early.

Lol......some seem to like a nibble!!!!

Good advice.......yep, we all await that thread!

op look at schumi' s trip reports in the trip forum.

zero in on the posts where she has pictures and talks about hhn.

for the past years, she has made trip reports and a good portion of them cover HHN and food and drink...

you will get a very good idea of what happens in the parks during hhn...

Thanks all so much! Great to know that 'Going solo' is a done thing :) I will get watching the boards for more info nearer the time :)
