HHI Waitlist...

I usually make my reservations at WDW at 11 months out, but my wife and I got the idea (late-in-the-game) to try HHI this summer. As I'm sure most of you are aware, it's booked solid for the entire summer.

We're on the waitlist for a week in mid-June for a 1-bedroom. As I sense my odds of getting this are slim, can we waitlist additional weeks as well? There are probably 3 or 4 other weeks that we could do. We're flexible since we're driving. Does this pose any problems - what happens if more than 1 week comes available at the same time?

Any advice would be appreciated! As I have no desire to do Vero or WDW in summer, our other option is to bank all our points and just do it up big next year!

Thanks.

You can waitlist for another week. I added on points at HHI just to get the 11 months for the summer. 1bdroom is very hard to get. You can ask for 2bdroom or ask for nights you would pay at member discount. I had three nights mid week in last week in June and only got tues and thurs, but was able to pay cash discount for wed night. You may get the waitlist, but call and tell them you are flexible, CM I had was very willing to give me many options. good luck..it is a great resort..We are spending 12/31/04 there this year on our drive back to Boston from OKW!

When you say the CMs were helpful, do you mean that you called the resort directly, or are you talking about member services?

Thanks for the help!

I meant the CM at MS. They worked with me to see if I could get anything because I was flexible. They also made the cash reservation for me. We have always had to get a 2 bedroom for the summer, there are so few 1 bedrooms. Good luck.

My wait list for an HHI Studio in August came through. I needed to move my week and put myself on the wait list for two other weeks.

I learned that you might want to wait list individual days, rather than the week as a block. Then also book a cash reservation for the days you want.

As days become available you can accept them and cancel the cash days. Over the past two weeks I have picked up 5 of the 6 days I needed, so I'm down to 1 cash day. I am also on a wait list for a 1br figuring I'd rather move mid-week for one night and use ponts than pay any cash at all.

MS led me to believe that people cancel all the time, so hang in there.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I am confused by cash inventory and DVC inventory. If HHI is hardest to book in summer and always sells out, why does DVC give inventory for cash reservations?

thanks for any replies-

I'm curious about that myself. Can anyone shed some light on this?

My understanding is that it's all part of the contract we signed and the way DVC resorts are run. Instead of just selling out the property and then running it entirely on points, Disney holds a certain percentage of rooms to sell for cash so that the resort continues to bring in income.

I think Disney does this all around the year, busy times included (since that's when they'll get the most income). At some point, if cash rooms do not sell out, I think they are then given to people on the points waitlist (but I'm not certain about that).

What I don't fully understand is whether any of that income is returned to the resort - does the practice of selling rooms for cash help to keep maintence points lower? Or does that income just go to the company to use however they want?

In any event, it's the contract we signed and that's the way is is!
