HHI villa requests? Or does it matter?

What sort of requests does one make for a 2BR at HHI? I thnk I have NS (for med resaons) on ours and that's it... looking at the resort, I have no idea what would be more or less convenient / better for our crew. We have 3 kids who will be quite active during our week in AUgust there -- biking, swimming in the pool, visiting the beach, fishing off the pier... is there a particular area that would suit us better? Are second level villas considered better or more of a hassle? SHould I bother requesting anything, or just let the villa be chosen whatever way it will?

THANKS!

Truthfully, I wouldn't worry about your location too much. Personally, we prefer marsh views. We have had pool view during the off season and it was great, but it's too noisy for us during the summer; you might like it though, because you can see your kids at the pool right from your porch!

When we've had "interior" views, it's like being in a small neighborhood, watching everyone going to to and from the pool, etc.

IMHO, there are no bad locations and since the resort is small, nothing is TOO far from any of the amenities.

As far as first or second floor, well, that's personal preference. One of the biggest drawbacks of the HH resort is that the villas do not have very good sound insulation. If you're on the first floor and there is a family with a lot of kids above you, you will hear footsteps. As long as you don't get the group with toddlers who run from room to room at 6 am, it's not too bad, but you never know! (And if you think your kids will be running around a lot, you might prefer the first floor out of consideration for those who would be below you. ;) ) Even the first floor has 1 short flight of stairs (maybe 8-10?) to get to the room; the second floor has 3 of those flights. We usually take our chances on the first floor because when we move in to our villa, we really MOVE IN and it's just easier to not have the extra stairs.

I can truly say that I have never had a bad location at the resort in probably at least 30 visits there over the years -- some that I've prefered over others, maybe, but nothing that I've been unhappy with. You'll enjoy the atmosphere so much, you won't care where your room is, as long as you're in Hilton Head!!! :flower:

Disneyaholic is correct--I don't think you can get any terrible locations as the resort is small. We were just there last week and stayed in 2412, meaning building 24, Room 12. It's a building right next to the pool area, but since we were on the side farthest away, we couldn't hear the pool noise at all. Our balcony opened up to the marsh and overlooked a playground where our DD4 would go slide and climb. It wasn't noisy, either, as it wasn't used much. Moreover, that location made getting to the campfire, magic show, bike rentals, gift shop, etc. very easy since they're all centrally located at the pool area. The pier extends away from this area, too.

I would also echo Disneyaholic's wisdom of the first floor vs. second floor arrangement. We were on the bottom floor (2422 would have been the second floor) and the first two nights the noise level was fine. However, our last night there, a family of five arrived and took the rooms overhead--sounded like an army had moved in. I don't say this in a malevolent way, as I'm sure they were just enjoying themselves and their arrival to HHI. But, the floors seem to have little in the way of sound barriers so the constant tromping around by the kids and heavy footfalls of the adults well into the night (it stopped just shy of midnight) could have gotten annoying. I would definitely opt for an upstairs suite and then be conscious that whatever you do affects the family beneath you. Have fun! :earsboy:

Disneyaholic said what I would have said. We haven't found a location that didn't turn out to be our favorite.

As much as I would prefer a 2nd floor, we've also opted for the 1st floor villas. Sometimes 1 flight of stairs is enough after a long, hot day at the beach or pool. Summer at HH is hot and humid.

Personally, I wouldn't want a view of the pool. I'm not ready to let DS5 go to the pool by himself (I can't imagine why :confused3 ) and enjoy sitting on the balcony. Just the idea of him seeing the pool 24/7 would be enough to send me packing.

Your kids are going to love HH. With bikes, the resort is easily traveled from one end to the other.

According to 2 CM's I spoke with it's pretty much first-come-first-served. I don't think it makes much difference to request ahead of time. They go over medical requests the day before or that morning, but otherwise they usually wait until the guest arrives to assign the room. I think they WILL look at the preference at that time.

After saying that, I also have to add that we requested marsh view ahead of time and got a beautiful marsh view. So if you have a strong preference, it doesn't hurt. I haven't been there enough to say which view is best. We loved the marsh view. It was better than our previous view of the canal to the northeast.

I have knee problems and climbing to the second level was a bear. We were in and out a lot. I think I prefer the second level, though, regardless.

There is info. about contruction on the 2 bidrooms on the DVC member site. It is in small print. I would call them.
