HHI Trip Report - February 13-19

We've gone to crazy crab!

Please note that we said that we had gone elsewhere for the crab cakes.

No... it was the crazy crab.

Yummy!

Thursday, February 18: Last day today :sad1: Weather was a little cold this morning but then warmed up a bit this afternoon and evening. Slept in again and had Breakfast and spent the morning relaxing in our villa.

Lunch was left over pizza and lasagna in our villa. Then we bundled up and got some hot chocolate to go at Tide Me Over and headed to our Dolphin Cruise. We decided to do our Dolphin Tour with Captain Sonny aboard the Island Queen (www.hiltonheadtours.com). Our Cruise left out of Broad Creek Marina on Marshland Rd (directly across the marsh from the resort), about a 10 minute drive. The 1 1/2 hour tour was fun and informative. The captain narrated as we cruised. We saw 5 dolphins and many different birds along the way :cool1:. DS17 and DS10 got to drive the boat as well! It was a lot of fun and not as cold and windy as we thought it would be! With a coupon we found in one of the free books you can pick up all over the island, the tour cost us $77 ($16 for 4 adults and $8 for 1 child) + $5 tip. :thumbsup2

Since it was our last chance for a ride on The Big Dipper Slide and it was feeling warmer out, we decided to head for the pool. Jennifer was life guarding, so we got to see her one last time before we leave as well. DD13, DS10 and myself went on the slide many times...alot of fun!

Dinner was at Kurama Japanese Hibachi Restaurant. It is located just off Sea Pines Circle on the left on Palmetto Bay Rd. It was great. The food was excellent and our chef was very entertaining. We had a great time. They have really good early birds from 4:30 to 6.

Back at the resort, we played some basketball and shuffleboard before heading back to our villa for our favorite show, Survivor! DS10 and I walked up to the front desk for one more game of Pool and I checked out our bill for Check-out tomorrow :sad1:

Tomorrow morning we are planning on checking out and getting on the road for 9:00 am. We are traveling to Charlotte, NC to visit DW's sister and family on our way back home this weekend. Everyone is excited to see them, but sad to leave here, too!

One last thing before I end my very first trip report...

My family's Top 10 Favorite Things about Disney's HHI Resort...
10 - It is the Best and Most Unique of all the DVC Resorts
9 - Best Mini-Golf (and regular golf too, even though I don't golf!)
8 - Dolphins and all the island wildlife
7 - All the Restaurants and Shopping on the Island
6 - Kayaking (even though we didn't get to do this time :sad1:
5 - Bicycling on the beach and on miles of bike paths all over the island
4 - Beach - The best beach on the East Coast in our opinion
3 - Playing games we wouldn't normally play - Shuffleboard, pool, horseshoes, checkers
2 - The BEST Disney Cast Members and Activities of any Disney Resort or Park
And Our #1 Favorite Thing about Disney's HHI Resort is...
Reconnecting, Relaxing, and Having Fun with our family!!!

Well, I guess that is it. Let me know if I can answer any ?'s for anyone.

Conan the Librarian: We missed the dusting of snow. We arrived on Saturday around 6:00 pm. I think the snow fell on Friday or Saturday morning. But we did see snow on the ground all the way from Connecticut to only about an hour north of Hilton Head on our car trip down here! You southerners have certainly had a cold winter this year!

Have a safe trip home and fun visiting family on the way- thank-you for posting the "off season" TR for all of us to enjoy! Loved it!

Pluto's Gang, I'm so sorry I didn't think to remind you of this til your last day, but did you ever get a wake up call? They have this really cute (I think) wake up call with Mickey and Shadow. It really put a smile on my face. Often, I'd get one late, after I expected to wake up, just so I could hear Mickey, then Shadow barding.

It blows my mind the number of activities that are available for families at HHI!! When we bought into DVC, I thought that HHI would be awesome just for the beach aspect, but the number of activities that are offered make it such an attractive place to want to vacation. I'm trying to convince DH that we should try and go to HHI in 2011 (provided we can get a room at the 7 month mark...). Great trip report!! :goodvibes

I love your top 10 - it matches my families feelings exactly. I'm so happy it's our home resort. My dues may be a little higher - but my family is treated like royalty the minute we drive over that bridge. Something I find lacking at the WDW resorts. (I can't speak for VB - haven't been there yet - maybe next summer)

Thanks for posting your trip report!
I enjoyed reading it.

Thanks, Plutos gang - really enjoyed your report! My girl scout next door delivered my huge cookie order last night and I enjoyed reading while munching a few 'Berry Munch' cookies, which are cranberry nut! They are pretty good - just not home made tasting like the ones at the resort. They did make me think of Hilton Head.

Did the game winner get Shadow for a prize? I bought it for my daughter when it first came out and she still loves it - she's now 17.

I gotta look into the "berry munch cookies". Right about now, I'd love to be reminded of HHI (not that it would take much to remind me).
What's this Shadow of which you speak? Is it by any chance the little stuffed dog, Shadow, from the general store? DH bought it for me at Thanksgiving and gave it to me for Christmas. I've got to admit-that little Shadow has a spot close to the bed, sometimes right next to me, every night. Great little gift for any lover of stuffed animals!

Yes, it's the stuffed Shadow. We have a big one. I would also like to get the puppies if they are still available.

Simba's Mom: We got a wake up call on our 2nd day and got one everyday after that so that everyone could hear it! Its a nice touch exclusive to HHI with Shadow barking,

Judique: Yes, DS10 got the Shadow stuffed animal. They had 2 sizes. One was a bit bigger than the other, but both on the small side. He chose the smaller one, which may be the "puppies" you are referring to.

We've been back to work and school for 2 days now...we sure do miss HHI! :sad1:
