I thought I'd post the activities that we took part in on our trip. If you've never been to HHI, hopefully this will give you can idea as to what there is to do there. Our group consisted of DW and me, our DD and SiL, plus our two granddaughters, one 9 and one that turned 6 during the trip. This post will be activities we did off property.
Dolphin Cruise. Instead of going through Disney, we went to South Beach and booked a trip with Commander Zodiac. DW and I had taken this trip once before. The trip is on a rubber raft, so you're sitting right on the water, and the six of us got the whole boat. There were dolphins all around. It was great!
Parasailing. We went with H2OSports in Harbourtown. I promised GD6 that I'd take her tandem parasailing on her 6th birthday. SiL and GD9 came along and parasailed too. Big fun!
Shark Fishing. SiL grew up on a chain of lakes in northern Wisconsin, and loves to fish more than anything. I promised I'd go shark fishing one night, and GD9 wanted to tag along. Our captain on the dolphin trip recommended Capt. Eddie at South Beach. It was $300 for the boat for three hours. SiL caught a 7-foot Lemon Shark, and GD caught a 39-inch Reef Shark! They're getting both of them mounted, and their little house will be bursting at the seams with sharks. As a bonus, a dolphin followed alongside us, and GD fed him about half of our bait.
Kayaking. Sil, the GDs and I went kayaking with Outside Hilton Head. We picked a trip that left from The Old Oyster Factory, where we planned to have dinner that night. This was a three hour trip through Broad Creek, the marshy waterway that Disney's resort sits on. Frankly, this was kind of a bust. We saw a couple pelicans, but no other wildlife except for the tiny fleas that live on the grass (not harmful). It was really hot, and the guide went into stupefying detail about everything.
It probably sounds like we were really busy, and we were. But there were still loads of things, both on property and off, that we never got around to doing. So we have to go back!
