We might be interested in buying a hhi contract but would use it for studio stays only. I know there are few of them. If we book 11 mo out for the summer months would we be able to get a studio for a week?

There are only 21 studios. If you call right at 11 months, you should be OK for summer reservations.

If you have not been to HHI, just realize that there is only a take-out food service at the resort and at the beach house with limited hours. We love the resort and the island, but find that we cook more there than at WDW. We love making breakfast and sitting on the porch...that being said..the restaurants are endless on the island and there are stand-outs to be sure. If you get a studio, you will need to drive to many restaurants and to entertainment. Shelter cove is within a short walk across the bridge from the resort and it does have restaurants and shops, but just a small sampling of what the island offers. We always make sure we have the ability to cook when at HHI, we go every year and added on additional points again after our first add-on. You will love the resort!

Thanks. We have been there and are staying again this year in a 2 bedroom. I'd prefer this but looking at the point charts and maintenance fees it seems best to either pay the cash rate for the 2 bedroom or buy a contract and switch to studios.

Unless you own at HH, reservations for summer are pretty tough to find. 2BRs are the most plentiful and will have easiest success at 7 months.

Enjoy!

We've done a week in a studio with no problems. We had plenty of room in our kitchenette for breakfast stuff like cereal, pop tarts, fruit, toast, and such. We usually would also eat lunch either in the room or pack a picnic for the beach. We like to go out to dinner, so that system worked for us.

Now this year, we stayed in a 2 BR because we took other family with us. We only cooked breakfast one day, but we did eat in a couple of nights. One of those was grilling out, so that would've worked in a studio just as well.

The first studio we booked at 11 months out. This year, we booked both our 2 BR and a studio for other family traveling with us at 7 months out. This was for Memorial Day week. They were able to put us all in the same building (#18) as well.

We have been booking the last week of August on cash and have had luck with that so far.

What's nice about HHI, is that all the charcoal grills are very convenient to the villas. Just walk down the steps and your close to a grill. With the steaming bags you can buy for the microwave for rice and fresh vegies, you could easily cook a meal. Even with the kitchen that's what we normally do - we just use the grill one night - cook up chicken, steak, burgers, and reheat the rest of the week. Not for everyone, I know. But we enjoy it.

I don't know if this is true of all the studios - but we had a GV and the studio under it one year. That studio was huge. It was a lot larger than the studios we have experience with - BWV, SSR, BLT.

The HH Studios are the largest of all DVC resorts at 455 sq. ft. All are the same size at the resort whether in the lodge or under the GVs. OKW Studios are the next largest at 390 sq. ft. The floor plan is also a little different than most of the other resorts.

got a reservation this year a few days before for my brother - his wife was having surgery - so wanted them a easy getaway - believe me and the MS were both surprised to have HH available. this was the second week in June for a studio.

Thinking about trying HHI in the spring...is it generally possible to go in March or April when booking at 7 months? We'd want a 1 bedroom. Anybody know if the weather is generally warm in March or April, also?

It is difficult to get Spring vacation weeks at 7 months..depends on which week you are looking at..we did get easter week (April) once at 7 months , but that was 8 years ago(before we added on at HHI the first time). There are fewer one bedrooms..may be better chance for 2 bedroom.

I might just have to bite the bullet and buy some more points!
