HHI seafood places

We will be at HHI for the July 4 weekend. Can someone recommend good seafood restaurants as well as markets where we can buy fresh seafood to cook back at the resort? Thanks in advance!

There is an awesome place called The Boathouse II. It is a little expensive, but the atmosphere is wonderful.....you eat outside near the water, and....my brother happens to sing there Thurs., Fri. and Sat. nights! (I'm a little bit partial I guess!) I think you would really like it. We go there everytime we are there. The food is terrific!

Just back two weeks ago ate lots of seafood. You can buy your own at Capt.'s Seafood which has moved to Coligny - we didn't do that but we really enjoyed the seafood at Sea Shack, Kurama (early bird) and Hugo's at Wexford - great early bird with choice of lobster, crab legs, flounder, tilaplia and shrimp and grits on their $14.95 early bird!!!!

There was a great HH restaurant thread on this board last year. If you have time, do a search and it will likely give you more options than you have nights to eat out!

When you check in at the resort, be sure to ask for the restaurant guide that has the menus in it. It's a great way to see just what each restaurant has and who has early bird specials.

Most places don't take reservations and it can get very crowded during the summer months. Either go very early (another reason to do the early birds!) or be prepared to wait to be seated. Some places have entertainment and outdoor bars to make the wait a little more bearable.

We just got back from HHI last week-end. We really liked the Boathouse II also. Another one we liked was Bonefish. This is very close to the resort just out on hwy 278.

Our favorite was Crazy Crab at Harbourtown. We also ate at Sea Shack, but were not as impressed (except for the prices) and I was not feeling well that night, anyway.

Boathouse II was recommended to us by the front desk, but we never got around tuit last time. Hopefully, we'll get there in November-I love seafood. We did like Hudson's on the Docks. Chef Gordon recommended Old Fort Pub, but I don't remember if that had alot of seafood (or even if it's still open, there seems to be such a big turnover of resturants at HHI).

My favorite would be the Old Oyster Factory. I haven't eaten at Boathouse II or Hudson's but both have been highly recommended to me. Cafe Europa at Harbour town is a good choice. There are 2 crazy crabs and actually the one on 278 near the welcome center is more highly recommended. I've only at a the one at Harbour town and it was just OK, as was Steamers at Coligny. Alexander's and Redfish are more upscale and the later likely better. Hugo's is the same people that ran Fitzgerald's for some time and I plan to try it while there this summer. Kingfisher's is hit and miss. Some of the DVC regulars really like Scott's in Shelter Cove but I haven't eaten there.

Last I was there, the Old Oyster Factory had a free salad coupon in many of the books as well as being on the DVC list for 10% off. Everytime we've asked, we've been able to combine the two. We were also able to combine any discounts, usually 10% off or a free desert/drink, during early bird times EVERY time. There is a Charlie's Crab (Landry's) on the island as well. Bonefish is a chain, based in St. Pete I think and linked to Outback and Carrabba's. Captain's Seafood was close last I knew and sounded like it was going to open in a new location but I'm not sure where.

The Salty Dog at South Beach gets rave reviews but isn't much to look at. There's another seafood restaurant there as well but don't recall the name offhand. The Harbourmaster and Quarterdeck were undergoing changes and I don't know where they stand. There are MANY other places that serve seafood that don't specialize in it and I'm sure I've left out many great options.

There is a publication on the island which lists menu's, early birds, happy hours and the like; I find it most helpful.

The Sunset Grill. By far a locals favorite. We were told about it from some friends who live on the island and it was outstanding. They do no advertising and it by far has the prettiest views on the island. Well hidden it is behind a RV site. Very small place must have ressi to get a table. On the pricey side but my wife and I while go back everytime for the wonderful food and the great sunsets.

We always buy our fresh seafood from a stand on the right as you are going towards Disneys Hilton Head Resort called Barnacle Bill's. The seafood is always fresh and he also sells great organic veges and pies to die for. We get shrimp and boil it and then wrap a small piece of bacon around some and stick a toothpick in it and put it under the broiler and get some corn on the cob and make a salad and sit out on the porch and it's heaven!
We have tried several restaurants on the island but this last visit found our favorite so far. Just as you cross the bridge to the island, on the left you should see a sign for a restaurant called Hudsons. It was great! Good fried seafood if that's what you want, but also my son had grouper with a mango relish that was incredible. It wasn't real pricey or real dressy. It is on the water, and there was a band playing on the pier while we waited(they said it would be 20 minutes but it only was 6), and a clown making balloon animals and entertaining the younger children. We will definitely return. Have a great time.Oh, if you are driving, we like to take a battery operated lantern to HH to sit on the picnic table on the porch. There are no outside lights on the porch and we enjoy having some light, to sit by, or read by, or eat by, play games or cards by, ...

Shhhhh!!! Now everyone will be there! We've had Easter brunch here for the past two years and it's been excellent. Tiny place, unusual location, great view. Chef Gordon recommended it to me a couple of years back.

Captain's Seafood which used to be on 278 is now near Coligny. Not actually in Coligny, but across the street around the back of Coligny. On the upper floor with a parking garage underneath. The new location is listed in the restaurant guide.

Just because it bears repeating, Barnacle Bill's is the best. Do not be thrown off by the appearance of his set-up. Consistantly excellent seafood - the scallops are my favorite...a little butter, garlic, salt, pepper, parmesean, cream...pasta sauce from heaven! Same recipe, shrimp pasta from heaven also. Need a change? Add cajun seasoning!

We were there a couple of weeks ago and ate at The Wreck of the Salty Dog. It is a little pricey but the food and service is exellent.

Old Oyster Factory - Becoming too well known and is crowded (takes no reservations) if you don't arrive early. But, it still has excellent seafood and great views. It is listed on the restaurant guide w/directions.
Ocean Grill - Located right across from the Disney resort but on the far end so you have to walk over the bridge at the entrance and work your way over to it (about 10-12 minute walk) or you can drive (about 4 minutes). Upscale, small, sits right on the water, and has excellent food and service. Seems to cater more to the those who moor their boats at the piers than vacationers, but given its location, we gave it a try. Loved it.

I am looking forward to eating seafood!!!

My DW and DD and DS do not like seafood (only shrimp), so I don't get it very often, and am looking forward to it..

Does anyone have any places that are VERY good at seafood, but not pricey???? I don't want to spend a tons of money, but want the most "bang for the buck" if you will....
