We are a family of four (DS 7, DD,5). We are getting a one-bedroom for a week in April. Any suggestions for a room request? I don't know much about HHI so I can't say I have any preferences. Educate me. :)

First, I'll tell you that there are 21 1 BRs at HHI, 16 of which are in the main lodge. The other 5 are in buildings 16, 18, 19, 28, and 30 ( THINK those are the 5, I trust someone will correct me if I'm wrong). The main building has an elevator that goes all the way from the ground level; in the other 5 buildings you'll walk up one flight of stairs to the first floor. Some people prefer the other buildings because they feel more a "part of the resort", but we prefer being in the main building, because we don't like walking up a flight of stairs all the time (back issues) and also, we enjoy Big Murgie's Den off the lobby. Our favorite 1 BR is 1138 (although I trust that 1128 has a similar view)-

If you want to go with one of the other buildings, 1812 is great-

My only recommendation about HHI (which I feel VERY strongly about and which I had not researched prior to our trip) is to request the top floor. HHI is built of wood construction and is not insulated very well. We had a studio on the 2nd floor in the main building and I kid you not could hear EVERY SINGLE footstep in the unit above us. Little kid feet which RAN everywhere they went...BIG HEAVY FEET clomp, clomp, clomp...floorboards creaking & squeaking...early risers....late night owls....I hated our unit. It is the only time we've ever had noise complaints in a DVC property.

I do not know where the 1 bedrooms are located, but my preference is closest to the hot tub. I like going into the hot tub first thing in the morning and last thing at night, especially in off season.

At hhi there are probably a few preferences, main building, pool, hottub, interior or water view, close to shuttle to beach, close to parking.

We have only been 1 time and stayed in a 1BR. It was the noisiest DVC villa we have ever stayed in. We were in the main building where Check in desk is. We were at the corner and right next to our master bedroom was an alcove that held every HVAC fan for the entire building (or maybe just our floor...I don't know, but there was a ton of fans constantly running). Our master bed headboard was right against the wall (other side of wall had all the fans). It would wake me when they'd shut on...I didn't sleep too well and I usually sleep good in my DVC master. Don't know how that helps you though, as I am sure every building has these HVAC fans. I want to say we were on the top floor...so maybe a lower floor?????

:rotfl: I recommended asking for the top and you said to ask for a lower floor - both for noise reasons! :rotfl: I'm tellin' ya that creaking floor with the trillions of footsteps above us drove me NUTS. And our first 2 days were nothing but pouring down rain so we were pretty much stuck inside for 2 days. I couldn't even NAP.:sad2:

Are the studios only in the main building?

The studios are in the same places as 1 BRs. All the 1 BRs are lock offs with studios so that they can be used as 2 BRs if the situation regarding reservations warrants. Yes, the noise is one of the reasons why we request the top floor of the main building for every trip.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I think I'm going to request a top floor at the main building. Can I make that request online or is it best to call?

That's the same request we always make. I make it at the time I reserve, or, if I forget I call MS when I think of it.

Thanks! I will make myself a note to call and put in a request.
