OK, all you HHI experts - I leave in 3 days, and I'm trying to narrow down our restaurant list. I've looked at a lot of posts on here and have a lot of suggestions; what I'd like is for everyone to give me their TOP THREE restaurant picks. We are doing A Private Affair one night, and will be in Savannah one day as well (eating at Lady & Sons). The rest of the time we'll be dining at HH. So, where should we not miss?????

1 vote for the Old Oyster Factory and 1 vote for Guiseppes pizza (delivered to the resort pool). Third vote?? Up in the air. We do plan on trying the Hilton Head Diner for an early dinner one evening next trip. Did breakfast there and it was good.

Interested in seeing everyone elses top picks.

I vote for Scott's Seafood Market, which is just over the bridge from the resort. Easy pleasant walk, nice atmosphere, fresh seafood & a DVC discount. We've eaten these twice & really liked it both times. On a different note, I can't wait to read your report on a "Private Affair".

It depends on what you want it for. Fine dining, Cafe Europa and Old Fort Pub. Casual Dunes Pizza (across the main road from DVC), Guisseppi's pizza (one by Piggly Wiggly) and Wild Wings. Family Dining - Old Oyster Factory, Cafe Europa (kindof in between family and fine). Steak - Fitzgeralds near Colony circle.

Our favorite after PA was The Old Oyster Factory. Everyone on these boards raves about Guiseppi's. We did not care for it at all. Even my 3 kids who love pizza and are not usually too picky about pizza did not really care for it. I think we are spoiled by the great NY pizza we have easy access to here. Have a great trip.

We really liked the Old Oyster Factory and Santa Fe Cafe. Scott's didn't thrill us.

Was forgetting about Sante Fe and next door to it Charlie's french something. Both great for fine dining. Also Alexanders and all very close to DVC.

The restaurant next to Santa Fe is Charlie's L'Etoile Verte (means Green Star). It's small, about 20 tables or so as I recall, so they don't bother advertising. So reservations are a must. It was the best meal we had at HHI, and a relative bargain.

The Old Oyster Factory, the Mexican just over the bridge from DVC and there is a pretty good Japanese Teppanyaki just by the Toll Booth Entrance to Harbour Town ( on the right)

My wife just informed me that while Charlie's my have been my favorite restaurant, hers was Cafe Europa. So I owe her an apology for putting words in her mouth.

But Charlie's is right next to the Palmetto Dunes entrance, while Cafe Europa is clear over at Harbourtown. So there.

Charlie's and Santa Fe Cafe are my favorites - Scott's didn't thrill me either....

The Old Oyster Factory
Kingfishers
The Big Bambo (Not for the food as much as for the atmosphere)

I loved the hushpuppies at The Crazy Crab last weekend.

Enjoy...remember that's why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors...tastes differ...

We plan on going to HH for the first time in Sept 2003. However, I am already starting to gather some info. Everyone keeps referring to a lot of the restaurants as "just over the bridge." Are we talking within walking distance? We will have a car but can you actually walk to any restaurants? Thanks!

Lisa

DVC HH is on an Island with a small bridge. Just over it is a yuppie shopping area called Shelter Cove. It is within easy walking distance.

Looks like Old Oyster Factory is a must! Where is it located? Any other suggestions before we leave tomorrow??

THe Old Oyster Factory can actually be seen from DVC, if you look out the back of the resort and slightly to the right over the intra coastal waterway you can see the roof of the restaurant. If you were going by boat it wouldn't be very far LOL, to drive takes about 10-15 minutes. I think I got the directions from DVC.

One other place to think about is Crane's Tavern, we had an absolutely fantastic steak meal here, but it was pricey. It came to about $250 for 4 people ( including a GOOD bottle of wine) . A 6 oz Fillet Steak was about $30 but it was VERY good food.

Cafe Europa is my mom's favorite. I have never been there, but she goes two or three times a year. CQ's and good, family priced Captain's Seafood are ours. Captain's Seafood also has a good selection of fresh fish and seafood.

the Crazy Crab out on 278 (it is on the left about 1/2 mile after you pass the Cross Island intersection) as you head west is about 10 minutes from the resort. We prefer this location over the Harbourtown Crazy Crab location. The one on 278 is situated on a large backwater creek area and has great food. Tremendous fish tanks. The do not advertise in the big book of restaurants that you are given upon check-in. This is our favorite mass market seafood type restaurant on the island. We have eaten at Hudson's and Boathouse II along with Old Oyster Factory and Crazy Crab has better food in our opinions. We were on the island 2 weeks ago and found a new restaurant that we really enjoyed...Pasta Garden about 1 mile east on 278 from the resort, it is located on the left side of the road. It was very good. We also had Guiseppi's pizza and wings out on our porch on our last night. Don't mean to disagree with previous post but this place is great. We had really good burritos at San Miguel's in Shelter Cove but this place continues to have the absolute worst chips and salsa (the chips moreso than the salsa, the salsa is just kind of bland) that I have ever eaten. It cracks me up that they advise on their menus that there is an extra charge for more chips and salsa. There are sooo many restaurants on the island that it pays to get some ideas as you are doing in advance....now if only everyone could agree.

I haven't eaten at the Crazy Crab by the visitors center but did enjoy the one at Harbor Town. One restaurant I'll add is the Sunset Grill. It is off to the left as you come onto the island in a RV park. Sounds bad I know, but it has gotten some raive reviews. The other is Charleston's, has the best crab cakes many people have ever eater. I'm not a crab cake person so I'll have to rely on other experiences. All of this talk is making me hungry and also making me want to go to HH.
