While I am taking a pretty laid back approach to planning this trip, I was hoping the HHI veterans here could give me some insight into some things I have been wondering about... :confused3

We are not members, we are going on a guest certificate from someone else's trade into RCI. Does this change anything? Can we still do online check in?

Does anyone have any reccomendations for a good tour for water skiing/tubing? We are going in early October so I am guessing this is not too far off season to do? If we do a tour like this, should we also do a dolphin specific tour or will we likely see dolphins on this outing?

We are driving our truck down. If you were driving and you had the space, would you take your own bikes or just rent when there?

For a Savannah day trip, is any day better than another? Other than the trolley tour, any other reccomendations? We are considering a ghost tour as well... any reccomendations?

Driving from Ontario, any reccomendations on best route to get there? We are leaving at 7-8pm so that puts us at Washington DC around 6am on a Sunday so traffic should be fine, right?

So many questions! Hope you can help! :thumbsup2

Pretty cold water by October; I doubt you'd want to go water skiing/tubing and either way, I don't know of any places like that offhand. There are places where you can go para-sailing and jet skiing, but not sure if that's available outside the summer months.

Bike rental is cheap and the bikes they rent are great for riding on the beach. Rent there (and save the salt water wear and tear on your own bikes).

DC traffic: you should be in great shape there.

HH is wonderful and you're going at a great time: great temps and low crowds. I'm sure you'll love it all!

Thanks for the answers dis-happy!

Keep em coming :cool1:

Another question... is it typical to tip the guides for tours like the kayak trip and the dolphin tour or the nature tours?

Is there anywhere to rent golf clubs?

Thanks,

Kelly

DH has always brought his own golf clubs because he golfs so much, but I'd expect you could rent golf clubs, at least at some courses, like Palmetto Dunes, that gets more vacationer traffic than some local ones.
I didn't tip on the dolphin tour, but maybe I didn't know you were supposed to. And as far as seeing dolphins, I always found it more exciting when I saw them totally "in the wild", like at the Beach House area, off the fishing pier, in the marina, in back of Live Oak Lodge, etc.
The resort used to offer a 3 hour island tour, don't know if they still do. If so, it's a great opportunity.

They did offer dolphin tours if you can get in on Monday or Wednesday it is member day and you get a discount!

Early October water temps should be fine to enjoy. The ocean will still be in the upper 70's. (We were there last week and the surf temp was 82).

Right across the harbour from the resort (at the far end) is a business called Outside Hilton Head that offers a wide variety of watersports including skiing and tubing. It's an easy walk around the Shelter Cove boardwalk. Yes, you are likley to see dolphin from any boat going out into Broad Creek. Yes, it is customary to tip the guides.

October is a great time to be at HH.

Enjpy!
