So we are back from our 9 days at Disney and 4 at Vero...and it is time to think about our first HHI adventure next summer. I am feeling confident that I can score a 2 br again. (Had a week booked for July 18th but cancelled for Disney and Vero). Our kids get out of school mid June. I don't really want to go around the 4th (I am thinking VERY CROWDED :scared1:) so maybe 3rd week in June, or late July or early August.

IS HHI pretty much the same during the summer and it doesn't matter when you go?? Thanks

I would guess for 2011 June. In the past 50+ years, the avg # of storms in July are 1 every other year. (thank you weather channel) I think I would go end of June

HHI is pretty much booked to capacity entire summer; we are on waitlist for 3 nights in August FOREVER :sad1: There's some cash inventory but I don't really want to do cash as it is around $352 per night for 2br. idk about June because we usually go in July & August but I think it may be slightly less crowded except for maybe late in August.

We have never had an issue with storms, but maybe we have just been really lucky :confused3 It is very HUMID though, temps high 80's into 90's. Even with a storm coming up the Atlantic coast HHI usually doesn't take a direct hit because of how it's situated. Here's a link to temperature & weather info

DH & I & our :dance3: (ds 22, dd 19 & dd 13) LOVE HHI; the kids actually wanted to skip WDW this summer and just go to HHI but then some of their friends & my DBro & his family will be at WDW so we kept those plans but we will still stop at HHI on our drive to/from. We go to VB too but that's just on our " like " list, but HHI  IT !!! Restaurants AWESOME & plenty of activities both at Disney resort & nearby, our girls love all the shops on island too. We're going to try to get a day trip in to Savannah this summer also.

It's ALOT different atmosphere than VB but it still has a laid back, relaxing vibe to it but not that isolated - lights out at 9pm feel you kinda get at VB (LOL !)

Yep Vero was a different feel and I kinda wish we had kept part of the HHI days I had booked and did the WDW/HHI split instead, but hindsight is 20/20. Our kids will be dd20, ds 17 and ds 12 if we do go next summer to HHI. I think HHI will better suit their ages than Vero.

I was lucky to get HHI I guess and I am pretty sure I didn't book at even the 7 months. I will have to go back and look.

I guess I can call at the 7 months window for late June and see if we can get it. Then if not...we just keep moving into July and so forth.

Oh but then you will have soccer mom issues!! :rotfl:

But seriously, I agree that you should start with your earliest date & try for that & then keep moving it back by a week at a time. Just keep calling.

You know me so well. LOL Well this would be ONE week....... vs. 2 like this summer. Soccer is allllllllllllll summer. SO it really doesn't matter anymore. I am not letting that drive me nuts like it did this summer. :rotfl2:

KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it does look like I called right at the 7 month window for my HHI ressie. So I better do that again this time. THEN I need to KEEP IT THIS TIME. No changing my mind. NO NO NO.

As pp stated, summer is VERY difficult, but if you are flexible and want 2br, than success at 7 months is better. We added on in 2002 and agin 2010 at HHI just to get 11 months for summer. We love early to mid June(I'm college prof so we are done in May)-weather is great , but this year the ShelterCove tuesday night fireworks did not start until 3rd week so we did miss seeing those from the resort. We have also gone in July and August and much prefer the early summer month, but it can be Hot and Humid any time , I will tell you Aug was almost unbearable with pool so hot that they dumped laundry baskets of ice in it during the day to just get it less than bath water!!!! You definitely enjoy outdoor stuff more without the oppressive stuff IMHO. That being said, I would not hestitate to go again in Jly or Augus if that was all I could get, I would just adjust my daily routine..etc. We enjoy cooking(and of course, dining out), sitting on the porch, watching th kayakers and dolphins at entrance to shelter cove, reading books, and just relaxing!!! We have gone the past 5 summers and will return next year. Good luck at 7 months...goling for the 2bdroom is the ay to go!!!Hope to se you there next summer!!!
