HHI in April?

Hi all...

We booked our first-ever visit to HHI for Easter Break next year, and I'm wondering if you guys think mid-April will be a mistake?

I'm nervous that it won't be warm enough to swim, and then what will we do? My kids will be 4, 8 & 10?

Anybody who has gone around this time with positive feedback? I guess I'm just second-guessing the whole thing. We would be safer in Vero, but were planning on Driving down, and 15 hours is my limit on a road-trip!

Mid-April should be fine with daytime temps in the upper 70's - low 80's. The ocean may be still a little cool, but the resort pools are heated and will be fine.

The resort also offers a wide variety of activities for all ages so you you family should be as busy as they'd like.

We have been for easter break a few years ago in april and it was great. We were able to go to beach and beach house but DS only swam in the pools(they are heated). We did explore the beach and find crabs, etc, but really didn't swim in the ocean...it really is a nice time to go there for us Bostonians who still hav snow in April many years!!!! There are many daily activities for all ages at this resort..We love HHI and go 1-2X a year and love the relaxing atmosphere and look forward to those vacations as much as WDW(DH enjoys HHI even more).

We have been to HHI for last 8 or so spring breaks in April. Weather has always been great. As someone mentioned earlier, we don't swim in the ocean but the pools are heated but refreshing. Temps. are in the 70's and 80's during the day and a bit cooler at night. Perfect.

You will not be disappointed! That's our favorite time at HHI, we are from NY so we all swim - ocean temps around 68 - 70 which is the warmest it gets here for us in the summer. Have fun!

The one thing you might want to check out is the dates for the Heritage PGA golf classic. Last year, we were there for that and the island was a little extra crowded. Not bad though. And swimming was fine-and this is from a weather-swimming wimp. I won't swim until it's about 10 degrees warmer than when everyone else will hit the pool.

Hi Simba's mom, thanks for the head's up. It does happen to be the week that the Heritage PGA golf event will be taking place. So how much do you think that will impact our stay?

We need to travel that week because the kids will be off of school then...

Would you not return to HHI if you knew it would be taking place at the same time? We plan on doing things mostly around the resort, plus visiting the horse stables, and doing water-stuff like parasailing and paddleboarding. I guess we will have to go out to eat dinner though and I don't like the idea of fighting the crowds at restaurants.

Well, we went FOR the Heritage (my anniversary gift to DH) so it's hard to say. However, the only place I really noticed much of any impact was getting in and out of Sea Pines. In the morning-actually, up until early afternon when the big stars teed off, traffic was backed up getting in to Sea Pines, sometimes up to the traffic circle. In the afternoon, getting out of Sea Pines-the same thing but going in the opposite direction. Early morning Heritage attendees were pretty much tired out. Oh, and once inside Sea Pines during the Heritage, you couldn't drive around (I don't know how it worked if you wanted to go to, say, Salty Dog. DH had to park not far in, and take a shuttle. Come to think of it, maybe that was just for the Heritage attendees, but I'm thinking maybe not. He wanted to golf at the Ocean Course, but couldn't figure out the logistics. If you weren't going in to Sea Pines, you were fine. The day we got there, all the resturants were crowded for dinner, but some one told us that that was because it was Good Friday, not related to the Heritage.
