HHI - Dye's Gullah Fixings

Has anyone eaten at Dye's Gullah Fixings on HHI? If so, how was it. Do you have to have reservations.

I, unfortunately, have NOT eaten there, but I do recall reading a post from someone who HAD and they will not take you without a ressie. Went on the HHI tour with Carol this last trip, and she had nothing but praise for the food and the women who are cooking it (from recipes handed down in their family for generations).

We haven't eaten there either, but I also remember a not-so-old post on here that was very impressed with the food and with how they were treated. If you go, let us know what you think, please.

Will do. We will only be on HHI for three nights (1 at Hampton Inn and 2 at DVC resort). Plan to eat one night at Dye's, 2nd night at Kingfisher (I love their Shrimp and Grits) and 3rd night at Salty Dog. We're then going to spend a 4th night at Myrtle Beach before coming back home.

I'll second this recommendation (except I don't have the Sea Pines gate pass ). If you want T-shirts, go to the Salty Dog, but for a nice meal Redfish is great. A few others we also enjoy are Catch-22, Cranes Tavern and Stellini's.

We just ate at Dye's 2 days ago. Yes you need reservations and you need to make them the day before you want to go. She opens at 5:30 for dinner. She makes wonderful food and makes you feel like you are in her home and she is cooking for you. We go every year when we are in Hilton Head. She has some of the best fried chicken I've had. I would highly recommend it.

I think they are open 7 nights at least in season. Not sure about the winter months (but I suspect they are open then too.)

Hi NC neighbor. So what are those shrimp and grits like? We LOVE shrimp and grits. We get them from a place here called The Flying Biscuit Cafe and they are to die for. We are heading to HHI in early November and we may have to try this Kingfisher place. Do they do carryout?

That is so funny. The Flying Biscuit is where I go for shrimp and grits also. IMO the grits at Flying Biscuit are the best around. The shrimp at Kingfisher are better though. The Kingfisher shrimp are more barbecued in nature and just have a lot more spicy flavor than say the Flying Biscuit's. I'm sure you can get it carryout.

Edited - I just notice you are from Charlotte area. Do they have a Flying Biscuit there? We go to the one in Cameron Village in Raleigh. IMO though the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had is from a small restaurant in Apex called Rudy's.

Those grits are amazing, aren't they?! I could eat them everyday.

The Kingfisher shrimp sound wonderful. I think we will have to eat there!! My dh will be excited to hear we've got some more shrimp & grits to try out.

I saw the address link to Rea Rd., but which shopping center is this in??? Stonecrest? Trader Joes? Farther down Rea? Have to give it a try!!! Had no idea about this little gem located so close....

It's in Stonecrest. We love the biscuits and apple butter they give you with your meal too. MMMMM!
