HHI – Day 4 Dolphin Tour and Shelter Cove Fireworks

We had a 9:00 Dolphin tour scheduled with Low Country Tours so we ate an early breakfast and headed out to the Marina to meet Captain Scott. We were assigned to Kyle’s boat with a family of 4 from New Jersey. Kyle was a very interesting guy that lived in Costa Rica during the winter months and made a living down there on a fishing boat. He was from Hilton Head and shared a lot of interesting stories. We saw several dolphins along the tour and the highlight was when this old dolphin named Nick came right up to the side of the boat and allowed himself to be petted. :fish: I would highly recommend these boat tours over the kayak tours when the days are really hot. The poor kayakers we saw looked miserable in their heavy lifejackets with temps over 90 degrees.

We came back in around 11:00 and ordered sandwiches to go at Tide Me Over to take back to the room. Very good sandwiches for around $6.50 each. We spent the rest of the day at the Beach House where lots of teens seemed to congregate every afternoon.

We had planned on dinner at the Shelter Cove marina that night not realizing this was the biggest night for all the restaurants since the fireworks were in the Cove on Tuesday nights at 9:00. We couldn’t get in at Scotts without a reservation but managed to get a table at Little Venice with a short wait. Food was very good but our server seemed a little flustered with the crowd. We had a minor error on our bill which she corrected right away.

There are lots of sidewalk vendors on Tuesday nights and we found great buys on jewelry and watches. We purchased most of our “take home gifts” that night. We walked back to Disney where to CM’s “guarded” the gate to check for room keys. I’m glad they kept the grounds for Disney guests only so we didn’t have the crowds the Marina did for the fireworks. The fireworks went off right at 9:00 and lasted about 20 minutes. But DD and I looked at each other when it was over wondering why Disney didn’t put more of an active role into the firework display. No music and not much presentation. I think we have been forever spoiled by Illuminations and Wishes. pixiedust:

Tomorrow – trip to Beaufort and dinner at the Sea Shack

I don't think the fireworks are Disney's, are they? I thought they were sponsored by the Shelter Cove merchants. I don't think I've ever seen fireworks anywhere but Disney with music.
