Hey all you beach nuts.

I fondly remember childhood Atlantic City vacations as a child. So I took my kids last year to AC, and was very disappointed, not to mention attacked by nasty swarms of sand flies and green headed biting flies!

To sum it up, AC stunk!

So here is what I'm looking for:

We are a family of five, DD-14, DS-9 & DD-4. All good swimmers, like the ocean and insect free beaches. Prefer cooler to 100 degree weather.

So which resort, at what time of year (I only have 7 month window). Looking for fun, relaxing vacation with minimal traveling to offsite venues.

TIA

I also remember family vacations to Ac, I have not stayed at Hh, however I have stated and purchased VB. I'ts a great resort, I have never had a problem with sand fleas and have been there May/June and Sep/Oct. Their always seems to be a breeze off the ocean. It has a great childrens program and mini golf. People sometimes complain about having to rent chairs at the beach but I remember having to do it in Ac. Hope this helps.

Long ago it was Long Beach Island for us.

Well, we do HHI now and love it. Plenty of good DIS-threads to get you going. Our week there each year is usually occupied by moving back and forth from the beach chair to the pool chair. We wallow in the ocean, then do nothing, then float in the pool a bit, then do nothing for a while, then if the spirit moves us we do more nothing for a bit and of course there's treading water somewhere if that fails.

My opinion, can't go wrong with late-summer in HHI it you used to like NJ

Those green flies have much more to do with whether the wind is onshore or offshore as opposed to geographical location. But Yes. They do have a nasty bite.
I have nothing but positive things to say about VB.

In the past, people have talked of "no see-ums" some sort of insect that frequents both beaches. I think they come out at certain times of the day.

We're going to VB over Memorial Day weekend and again in August, our only other visit was not during nice beach weather.

Come on down to Cape May! As you face the ocean, go to your right, there's a wonderful beach on that side of the boardwalk, as well as a beautiful view of the Cape May Point lighthouse and state park.

Hilton Head is my favorite place in the whole world.....you can't have a bad vacation there, IMO. We stay in Sea Pines and sometimes when up late I've heard and seen the little truck driving around spraying a cloud of pesticide for mosquito abatement. Hey--whatever works. :) The no-see ums are only bad on the beach when it's very, very still (ie. no offshore breeze) and you are messing around close to the dunes.

New poll: does your name really mean: green(headed flies)ban(ned from my life and beach vacations)?

We went to Vero Beach last July and it was beautiful. There is always a nice breeze so it doesn't feel hot at all. The no-see-ums come out at night. We loved it there. This June we are going to HHI for the first time. I also remember the Jersey shores. Wildwood, AC, and Long Beach Island. You will enjoy Vero Beach if you choose to go there.
