I'm calling this week to make ressies for September - our first trip on points, and our first trip to HH. We're going to try to get a 1 bedroom, non-smoking (There's 4 of us - DH, me, DD and infant DS). We want to be near the pool with a nice view. Any suggestions?

Also, we're planning to drive, but can't decide if we should leave in the middle of the night and drive straight through or if we should do the trip in two days. Any advice?

There are no 1-BR units that are real close to the pool. Most of the 1-BRs are in the lodge and building 13, which are a walk to the pool. I also think that there is a 1-BR/studio under each of the GVs. GVs are in bldgs 27, 28, 18,19, 16 and 30. The closest 1-BR to the pool is in 27, but I think that is also a smoking bldg. I would suggest the 1-BR under the GV in bldg 18, it's not as far from the pool as it appears on the map, plus it will have a nice view of the marsh.

You are going to love HH. We were there in Jan. and had the place all to ourselves.....very unusual for a Disney resort. We can't wait to go back at Thanksgiving, we reserved a GV for the week.

I am going to ask others to confirm if I am correct about the location of the 1-BR units at HHI. Have a great trip....Johnnie:D

I agree with Johnnie that bldg 18 would be good. It has a marsh view and perfect viewing of the fireworks on Tuesday nights (assuming them still do them after the summer season). It will be about a 5 min walk to the pool from there. We stayed in bldg 12 a couple of yrs ago and we walked back and forth to the pool several times a day. The resort is actually much smaller than it appears on the map.

Where do they do fireworks on Tuesday nights? This is the first I have heard of this and it sounds fun!

We just got back from HH and stayed in a 2br in bldg 18. The view was great and it was the perfect location between the pool and Big Murggie's Den. It was pretty busy there for February - but it was also a holiday weekend. Have a great time!

Hilton Head is my home resort and you are going to love your stay there! We did not have a one bedroom in December but a two bedroom in building 31. It had a nice marsh view and we were about a 2 minute walk (if that) from the pool and the mercantile and about a 5 or 6 minute walk to Big Murgy's Den. The resort is pretty compact and I was surprised that we were really not far from anything even though we were in the farthest building from the main lodge.

About driving, it took us 13-1/2 hours (including several "rest" stop breaks and a nasty breakfast at a Bob Evans in Virginia). We left home about 3:30 in the morning and besides getting a little lost when we got off the interstate, I think we made it on property about 5:00. If I had to do it again (and we will this Thanksgiving week) I'd break the trip up and spend the night somewhere in North Carolina. Both hubby and I were really tired getting up so early but it was really an easy drive and coming home DH was so relaxed and alert he drove the entire 12 hours home by himself!

If you have any other questions about HH just ask!

Lisa, I have requested a 2-br in either Building 29 or 31 - I'm glad to hear you liked it! I want to be close to the pool, but not RIGHT by it. Were you on the first or second floor? Did you see dolphins or otters in the marsh? What types of activities did you do? We are going the very last week of May (after Memorial Day).

You are going to have so much fun! I can't wait to go to HH when its a bit warmer than it was in December. I loved the location of building 31. We chose the first floor because I didn't want to tackle two flights of stairs everytime we came back to our villa (lazy I know). At first it was wonderful because we did not have anyone over our heads but I will admit I did nickname the people above us the "buffalo" family. I am sure they were not making any more noise than we would have if we had been the family over their heads. We were probably spoiled by the peace and quiet of the pre-Xmas crowds and that's probably why they seemed to bang around to me. Hubby said he hardly noticed it.

Anyway, that's one of the two drawbacks I can think of to being on the "first" floor. The other is that our view was mostly blocked by the trees. I think if we had been on the higher level we would have been able to see the water better. For this trip I have again asked for the first floor primarily because my son is king of the "jumpers and bumpers". He makes so much noise playing around that I am afraid the poor people below us will complain!

About activities, we were there for 6 days and spent so much time relaxing and unwinding we did not do very many activities. We did spend quite a bit of time at Big Murgy's den playing pool and sitting in front of the fireplace; we spent some time at the beach house which was very nice. It was unfortunately to cool for us to swim but the two pools look like lots of fun; we also played ping pong and had a nice meal at Scott's Fish Market.

Next time I'd like to rent bikes, participate in the campfire, do a dolphin cruise, swim in the pools and take a dip in the ocean and they also offered some cooking classes that seemed interesting so I'll check those out. You can call the resort and have them fax you a copy of the itinerary for the week. I found that helpful.

Have a wonderful trip!

Lisa

Thank you for all the great info!! I will ask the resort to fax me the activities list when it gets a little closer to our trip (only 3 months to go!!) :) The kids really want to do the beachcombing trip and the Dolphin Discovery tour. And, of course, we will be swimming and relaxing, plus we have a day-trip to Savannah planned. I CAN'T WAIT!! :D

I believe fireworks are only during the busy summer months. I do not think they are shot off during Sept.

The one bedrooms on the top floor of the lodge have an excellent view of the marsh and is the only bulding with an elevator to the covered parking below. The drawback is the walk to the pool.

You will love the resort.

We drive to Hilton Head from York, PA. It is about an 11 hour drive and we do it in two days. We always stop in Rocky Mount, NC. We've found a Hampton Inn next door to Nash General Hospital. It's about a mile or so from I-95. The people at the hotel are very nice, it's in a nice location, and there are a number of restaurants nearby. We drive about 6 hours the first day, stop and rest, and then do about 5 the next day. That lets us arrive around 2:30 OR 3:00 feeling rested and ready to go. The first year we drove the entire 11 hours in one day, and decided not to do it again.
