We have booked the Private Affair with Chef Gordon for our trip in May. Other than selection of the menu, how involved can you get? Can you observe the preparation of the meal or assist him?

I have heard that you can observe him if you have a small group. Not sure about assisting him, though. I have also heard that he will allow one or two people to accompany him on his shopping, but again, I don't have first-hand experience with that.

The one Private Affair we did was a group of 9, so we were served -- all prep was done "backstage". We are doing it again this coming Tuesday with just our four family members, so I'll see if I can get more answers for you.

;)

Chef Gordon is very interactive. He does invite guests to participate as much as they'd like. As mentioned, you are welcome to accompany him when ingredients are selected and purchased and he also allows/invites/encourages you to assist in any way you'd like. He is very generous with information and will provide recipes for all items at the end of the evening.

The meal is prepared right near the table and you are encouraged to watch and ask questions (and help) if you'd like.

It is a wonderful experience- we will enjoy our third "A Private Affair" this summer.

Enjoy!

Thank you so much for the information. My DW's main hobby is gourmet cooking and she is as excited as a child on Christmas Eve.
