We decided to stay with a DVC property for the July 4th week. Now I need input on VB and HH. We have stayed at VB before but not HH. Any help appreciated..

Both weeks will be crowded at the resorts. If you have never been to HH, the main pool and ocean front property is across the street from the resort. There is a pool and slide in the resort area also. There are no on-site restraunts at HH, but there are numerous within 3-10 minute drive.A few you can even walk to.
HH has all type of activities just like VB.

Having visitted both resorts I would say, for quality there is no real difference between them. Both are top class resorts. As far as the "ambience" of each resort, Vero has more the feel of a hotel, HH more laid back and spread out with the buildings surrounded by Oak trees and Spanish Moss.

IMHO the pool on grounds is the main pool (with the feature slide), while the pool at the beach house is a "splosh about" pool so I'd disagree with ncligs on that. At the beach there is only the beach house, a snack bar and the Beach house pool. The beach house is a couple of minutes by car or 15 minutes walk. While it is an inconveniece not having the beach on your door, like Vero, I do think the beach at HH is significantly better than that at Vero. The beach is much wider, much less of a drop off once your in the water and the surf is much calmer. With younger kids HH is a much more restful venue than Vero. while Vero wins on proximity to the beach, HH wins on proximity to bars and restaurants. The marina by the resort (maybe 70 meters away) has several to choose from ( as well as several shops) and there are dozens more restaurants within 5 minutes drive.

I would think it unlikely to get either at the 7 month window for the holiday.

Well we decided to go with HH. I got a 2-bdrm with no problem. Staying 6/30 - 7/03. It will be our 1st time at HH and 1st in a 2bdrm.

I think you will love the resort and have a great time. We are headed back at the beginning of June and can't wait!

You get a litle more beach if low tide happens to coincide with your trip to Vero Beach. Low tide is about 1 hour later each day. The week we were there we started the week with low tide at about 10am and by the end of the week it was around 3pm. This gave us a lot more beach than what I have seen in some of the pictures on this site where the beach is almost non-existant. I'll probably check a tide chart befor I go again.

We stayed at HH and loved it. Since we are Fla. residents, VB seemed like we were practically in our own back yard, not enough of a change of scene. The "Low Country" of HH was much more appealing to us.

Spent July 4th at VB and loved it. It was not crowded at all. Great fireworkd in the town of Vero Beach.

I suspect HH will be just as great over the 4th.
