Has anyone done Hilton Head or Vero Beach for New Years, thinking of adding a trip not heading down until say 12/27. Anyone been to either locations for New Years, how was it, anything going on, and what do you think the chances are this late??? How is the weather?

thanks

Chances are probably still pretty good for getting a room at either. Weather that time of year is almost impossible to predict but your chances of getting sunny in the 70's is a lot better at Vero which is the start of tropical Florida vs. HHI in South Carolina.

I've stayed at HH over NYE - the weather was chilly and there weren't a lot of activities - but the points are cheap! We stayed in a GV which was great (used the fireplace a lot) - rented points from a HH owner to get the 11 month window - but I'm not sure we needed to do that. We added a night onto our reservation while we were there and got a member discount cash rate of $240 for a GV. That was cheaper than the $10 pp rental... I think Vero would be a bit livelier and the weather is probably better - but I think that's peak point time there too.

If you are coming from a cold climate HH will feel nice...but generally South Carolina in the winter isn't going to be shorts weather. You MIGHT get a day in the 70's.

we would be coming from CT, so anything is better!! I am sure hubby could still golf, so that would keep him happy, if the pool isheated, the kids would be happy! I love walking on the beach in cool weather! Maybe flying kites? Do they have NYE activities at the resort, and is there still stuff going on for the kids! A GV sounds like it would be pretty cool!

PS! It's 55 out right now and didn't need a coat, so if its like this and sunny, sounds like it could work!

I am leaning more towrad HH because we would drive, I don;t want to fly during the holidays!

We stayed over NYE in 02. We didn't utilize any of the resort activities that year (I'm still not sure why we didn't???), but it seems like there were activities for kids and teens that evening. I think we could have sent our kids and gone out somewhere for an adult dinner; but we had a child under four and I don't think he was able to attend their festivities at the time.
